Astoux et Brun: Cocquillages BRUN
Cocquillages BRUN also called Astoux et Brun is in Cannes the best known restaurant for seafood. It is located at the corner of the rue Félix Faure and rue Louis Blanc nearly in front of the Hôtel de Ville.
We have been there twice in the evening. It is best to be there at 19 h because at 20 h there is a queue on the street (this was end September). The restaurant has a very high output of seafood so that quality and freshness is excellent.
The bad point of the restaurant is that the alignment of the tables is so tight that one eats in the plate of the neighbour. Most tables are on the terrace (non smoking) which is very noisy because of the traffic. Furthermore with all the people waiting outside to get a table the waiters are in a hurry. Don't expect them to take time to translate what is on the menu.
Fortunately that we speak French because we composed our own sea platter as we are not so fond of oysters. Prices are indicated by the number of pieces for the shells and by 100 g for the shellfish it is therefore useful to know that there are 4 grosses crevettes - big shrimps in 100 g.
A sea platter for two plus Provence white wine (too expensive at 21 €) will cost you about 100 €.
Last year Brun took over the restaurant Chez Astoux in the same rue Felix Faure 41-43. The same food, same prices and more comfort and better service.

Astoux et BRUN: SEAFOOD HEAVEN
Astoux et BRUN, also known as Coquillages Brun, has a way of drawing you into the restaurant to dine on perhaps the best seafood in all of Cannes. On the corner of rue Louis Blanc and rue Felix Faure is an oyster shucking stand which has everyone walking by, pause to watch the shuckers, shuck. After seeing this operation and if you desire to partake of the shelled fish, then promptly walk to the entrance on rue Felix Faure and be ready to fulfill your every seafood dream.
World famous and visited by lovers of fresh seafood, this restaurant is truly a masterpiece of gourmet dining. Eating outside on the patio, is the way to porclaim to the walking masses, that you have arrived. Arrived at the French Riviera, to enjoy the passion of eating.
Favorite Dish: What? The favorite dish. Dining at Astoux et BRUN, one almost does not have to order, just point. Every table seems to have, want, desire, the same dish. The Seafood Platter. Oysters, mussels, langoustines, clams, prawns and whelks all freshly prepared and brought to your table, to rest on a raised platform for all to see. Many other dishes are at your pleasure, but finishing off one of these platters takes at least two people. A bottle of wine, some bread, and you have had a meal to remember.

As there was a queue I did not have the occasion to taste their platters of seafood but I do not hesitate to think that given the great output quality and freshness must be excellent.
This being said the fitting of the restaurant made me think of a factory canteen. It does not seem to be the best place for a one-to-one dinner with your girl-friend.

Comme il y avait une file d'attente je n'ai pas eu l'occasion de goûter leurs plateaux de fruits de mer mais je n'hésite pas à penser qu'étant donné le grand débit la qualité et la fraîcheur doivent être excellents.
Ceci dit l'agencement du restaurant m'a fait penser à une cantine d'usine. Ce ne semble pas l'endroit idéal pour un dîner en tête à tête avec sa compagne.
L'alignement des tables est tellement serré qu'on mange dans l'assiette du voisin.
