La Napoule Things to Do

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This activity is taking place mostly between February and March. That is when the mimosa trees bloom with million of lovely yellow fluffy balls.

To see it properly, go and have a short walk either in the Tanneron or the Esterel forests.
For best viewing choose a low valley walk instead of a high peak trek where trees are rarer.

There are multiple starting places along the N7. Make sure you buy a good map at the local tourist office and take food and drink in cas your walk takes longer than planned.

The Massif de l'Esterel is a huge protected forest & coastal mountain area betwen Mandelieu la Napoule and Frejus Saint Raphael.

You can buy good maps in the local tourist offices showing all teh walking, horse ridding and mountain bike trails.

There are trails of all levels from a gentle family stroll to challenging full day treks.

During teh Summer some roads going inside the park may be closed to reduce the risk of forest fires. Be cautious at all times: one discarded cigarette can lead to the destruction of miles of forest and heavy fines are in place for the use of any kind of open flamme (lighter, matches etc.)

Many luxury cruise ships stop in the bay of Cannes, next to the Iles de Lerins. You can admire them while on th eferry between La Napoule (or Cannes) to the Islands or if you have your own boat (or parents with their own boat, thank you for the ride Mum!) you can observe in your own time.
Last time I was there the Queen Mary 2 stopped by and it was very impressive indeed!

The A8 motorway passes right in the middle of the Mandelieu part of Mandelieu La Napoule.

    There are two exits:
    - Exit 41 takes you to the commercial area near Mandelieu airport. It's handy for Cannes West area.
    - Exit 40 is the most practical exit and lands you right in Mandelieu's main street.

From Nice airport, follow directions for A8 Antibes-Cannes. It should take you 20-30 mins to get to Mandelieu La Napoule. Toll fee was 2.70 euros in February 2008.

This is a patisserie that sells the most exquisite cakes ever.

What to buy: Lots of choice: individual cakes, cakes to share, fruit tarts, chocolate tarts, creamy cakes, spongy cakes, you name it.

I'm not talking about stogy patisseries here. No, here they sell 'haute patisserie'. Each mouthfull will be delicate and delicious, with a subtle mix of flavours and textures.

These cakes are seriously addictive and should come with a health warning.

The shop also sells excellent bread and other foodie goodies.

What to pay: A few euros for each exquisite piece of paradise.

Four of the marvellous cakes at l'Oasis And two more!
