Fondest memory:
With the advent of the Paris_Lyon_Marseille line in 1848, this ushered in the 'grande epoque' of Marseille with all its impressive hotels. Seen in countless films, notably in the filmed works of Marcel Pagnol, and always recognizable by the impressive steps going down to the Boulevard d'Athenes to connect it with the city centre. The project was started in 1911, but because of the war was not completed until 1926. The decor is entirely oriental. There are 104 steps.
It sure looks nice but I noticed that on the 2nd or maybe 3rd day of our staying in Marseille. Frst I hated the place because my backpack was stolen here in front of the SNCF.
