A morbid thought: a walk over the cemetry
Menton has, like many other old town on the Cote d'Azur, it's old cemetry on top of a hill. From the boulevard down below along the seaside, one actually already can see the crosses and statues topping over the cemetry walls high up above on the hillside. A walk there is however a great way to experience the oldest parts from Menton and eventually be rewarded by a spectacular view from the cemetry hights as well as the sculptures on the serene grounds.
In Menton one commemorates in a graceful way
The war monument for all fallen soldiers and civilians in Menton is very beautiful and stand in the pedestrian streets. The small flowerbed surrounding a white stone sculpture of a woman looks fine and gives a warm hearted feeling. This is the way one should keep the memory of loved ones.
Palais des Congres de Menton
Like all larger towns along the world famous Cote d'Azur, Menton also has it's "Palais the Congres" or Congress centre. The building is of nice architecture and is on the right side from the Jardin Bioves (central park) when walking through it from the Casino side.
Keep driving past Menton to the Italian border. With the EU there is no longer a real stop point to enter Italy (just don't tell the car rental agency). Drive first through Garavan, the Beverly Hills of Menton. Typical of seaside resorts in the South of France, these villas were built for the provoleged few who chose Menton as their country retreat. Continue on to Vintimiglia with its famous market.

This fortress sits at the top of the village and merges into the shape of the rock on which it stands.
Be sure to admire the decorations of the rooms on the upper floors, most of which were added in the 15th century. The main room is open to the sky. The fortress includes a prison, an armoury and a kitchen.
The views from the top are said to be spectacular (it rained so we could not see).

The most charming public toilet in Menton
Everybody might know the difficulties of finding a clean public toilet in France, but if you come to Menton, pay a visit to the public toilets at "Napol?on Plage"!!!! It costs you 30 cents and you will experience the most charming lady who runs the public toilets and showers at the beach. I can only speak for the Ladies' Toilet, but it has an aviary with birds, a lot of plastic roses, a huge stuffed toy dog ( the size of a real dog), old things like a radio of the 50s and a lot of other curious things... It is spotlessly clean, the lady will hand you some toilet paper, there is water and soap.... it is truly an experience and nothing in comparison to the usual self-cleaning pay cell where you already wonder when you enter it if you will ever be able to get out of it again.... Try it and you won't be sorry! Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!

a day trip to monaco-montecarlo
An easy and interesting day trip from Menton is that to the principality of Monaco-Montecarlo. There are frequent trains getting there - several each hour at peak times - and the entire trip doesn't take longer than 15 minutes. Alternatively there are regular buses.
Monaco-Montecarlo is more than posh cars and expensive shops... the Grimaldi palace is very nice - and so is the old town. The oceanographic museum is top class and the entire city is dotted with wonderful statues. And, of course, there is more... a lot more to see.
Walking around and looking at everything takes more than a day. Lots of lovely structures as well as scenery.
