  • Tip Rating:
  • If you like to play tennis, there are many great tennis courts around the French Riviera. Choose the best one and be aware to pay for it (don't know how much???).

    Nice
  • Tip Rating:
  • Our trip to France was a reward for finishing final exams and a difficult year of study. I remember, when walking along the Promenade one night, thinking how good it felt to be so far away from the exams and all those pressures.

The first week in France had been tiring as we had travelled and walked a lot. By the time we got to Nice, we were ver much in 'relax-mode' and looking forward to spending our days at the beach. And that's more or less what we did...

  • Tip Rating:
  • Eat some socca (sort of pancake) in the old town. Don't exaggerate cause it's a bit heavy. The best one can be found at 'Socca D'Or', 45 Rue Bonaparte (one portion costs 2 euros).

  • Tip Rating:
  • visit the smaller cities along the coast of the french riviera... st. tropez, st. jean cap ferrat, cannes, and monaco. there are others too, but i didnt have time to see them all. but i will be back to see them.

walking along the coastal cliffs of st. jean cap ferrat. magnificent coastline views east of nice and west of monaco. the calm serenity of the area was so surreal.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Of course you must visit the beach, perhaps taking a leisurely stroll along the Promenade d'Anglais first. Although some people are a little disappointed that the beach is stoney, it really is the place to go for a few hours and catch some rays. Locals and tourists alike while away leisurely afternoons on the public stretches and there's always friendly beach vendors walking past just ready to refresh you with ice-cold beer, soft drinks, melon and even coffee although that wouldn't be my drink of choice whilst sitting in the blazing sun! The vendors in Nice really don't hassle you unlike some other places I've been to. Just a friendly 'non' will send them on their way as there's plenty of other thirsty sun-worshipers further up the beach!

Carrying on from above, if you do buy something from the drinks vendors and make a little effort, especially if you know a little French, you'll quite often find them really friendly and ready for a chat. I still think fondly of the 'Allo allo' man- if you've been to Nice you will certainly know who I mean and if you're planning a trip there you soon will! I can still hear his little songs in my head! Also, read his T-shirt- it rhymes in French but a rough translation is: 'Yes it's me, it's the truth, kisses are free, for all the night!' He really is a character.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Nice, the capital of the Riviera and fifth largest city in France, acts as a magnet attracting people from all over the world, for a multitude of reasons. Both elegant and simple, Nice's charm comes from its exceptional climate as well as its beauty. Even in May the café terraces are filled with people happily drinking and contemplating the ultra famous Promenade des Anglais. Always in flower, this wonderful walk follows along the bay, looking out onto the Baie des Anges and the beaches on one side, and on the other such luxury hotels as the Negresco.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The streets of Vieux Nice are too narrow for buses; this is a place you should walk. The central square is place Rosetti where Baroque Cathedrale de St-Reparate just manages to be visible in the concatenation of 8 narrow streets. A few minutes walk from here is place du Palais de Justice (on the picture).

  • Tip Rating:
  • Nice's beaches are actually covered with small stones. (If you are looking for sandy beaches, I would recommend nearby Antibes.)

However, you would be remissed if you did not take at least a stroll along their gorgeous shoreline.

  • Tip Rating:
  • At sunset, watch the sun dip below the horizon from the top of the romantic ruins of a chateaux that once graced a hill overlooking Nice. To the west, there are the beaches and, to the east, there is the marina (see photo).
