The full name of this museum is MUSEE NATIONAL MESSAGE BIBLIQUE Marc Chagall.

Marc Chagall was a renowned Russian born (1887) painter who lived in France and this museum is in honor of him. The picture is a paper bag and clipped to it is one of the pictures of his painting called La Creation du Monde (The Creation of the World) circa 1971-72. Marc Chagall died near Nice at St Paul-de-Vence in 1985. Wow. That means he was close to a hundred years old when he died.

    ...and enjoy some art.
The Musée Marc Chagall is a nice place, located on a hill in the Cimiez quarter. Just walk up the Boulevard de Cimiez and have a look a the nice big old villas on your way. It's a pleasure to enjoy the silence up there, a contrast to the bustling city.
The museum itself isn't too big, but shows a fine collection of Marc Chagall's artworks. It's architecture accentuates the pictures in a very good way. When the museum was finished, Mr Chagall himself hung up the pictures.
You should plan ~2 hours for the visit. A ticket is 4,50 EUR (for students).
An interesting thing is, that you are allowed to take photos of the inside of the museum and the artworks - nobody will interfere when you set up your cam. Just don't get noisy in there.
There's a little 'café' outside in the garden, to enjoy some cold beverages, wine or snacks after your stroll through the museum.

This is not just another ordinary art museum.
The Musée du Message Biblique Marc-Chagall (Marc Chagall Museum of Biblical Themes) contains only 17 large canvases, and a few other exhibits: you do not get intimidated by an infinite number of works of art glaring at you from every wall. This is a musum with human proportions.

The themes are all Biblical scenes; the paintings are indeed large, and the colors are bright and joyful; the whole museum is radiant with a message of beauty and love of mankind.

In a medium-sized hall you will find the 5 paintings of the Song of Songs cycle. Each one is a unique representation of love, and all of them together are a symphony of colors dedicated to love.

I came out of this museum with a new song in my heart.

Chagall was over 100 when he died in 1985, but he was already thinking about inheritance taxes in the 1970s, so he made a deal with the government. In lieu of the taxes, he offered about 17 large scale paintings to France. France offered a museum to Chagall. The museum is small, but Chagall fans will be dazzled by his interpretations from the old testament and stained glass pieces.

The best thing about the museum is just sitting on the benches and stairing at his paintings. Don't miss the stained glass in the auditorium and the reflecting pool with his mural on the back wall. The museum it self is very nice also.
