Negresco Hotel, Nice
The Negresco is the most user-friendly world class museum.Think of the Vatican with room service, having your own suite inside the Prado. You wake up 2AM and at your leisure photograph 6 floors of artwork.
Try photographing anything inside a museum in Italy. Then there is the variety of paintings, sculpture, posters, lithographs, and jewelry.IN my room I had a genuine Reubens.
THis is the reason Bill Gates tried to buy the hotel,in order to run off with the artwork. So if the prices are a little high, consider it a contribution to the French National Patrimony
The whole place seems more like a kitch-museum. Not a place to go for business (no business center or fitness worth the name), but an interesting experience as a holiday event.
The hotel has such a wonderful decoration and furnishing in the salons. You should stay at Hotel Negresco once in your lifetime
Financed by the wealthy hotelier Henri Negresco and built by Édouard Niermanns, the legendary Hotel Negresco opened its doors in 1912. At the time, Nice was a winter destination sought by wealthy Brits, who gave its Corniche its name. The domed Belle Époque hotel continues to be a symbol of luxury and a landmark on la Promenade des Anglais.
Negresco Hotel is a landmark for Nice. It looks nice :) from outside but it is stunning inside. Be sure you are dressed casual (like a guest) and hide at first your camera and then slide by the reception desk going straight forward inside the hotel, don't ask the boys just go in. You will reach the fabulous round hall (see pictures), with a glass ceiling letting in a lot of light, paitings on all walls, stucco decorations, sculptures and armchairs and tables you can have a sit and admire.
The Hotel Negresco was the dream of Henri Negresco and was to be Nice's first luxury hotel. It was built in the belle epoque style and was completed in 1912. It is still a beautiful hotel after all these years, maintaining its charm and character. It has actually been listed as a National Historic Building.
It is as much a museum as it is a hotel. Inside you will find a classic decor with many intricate details to remind you that the Negresco was and is very much a palace. Just beyond the reception area, you will find a rotunda which contains many works of art. At this time, there was a blending of classic and modern art being displayed.
This is a beautiful old hotel. The interiors make you feel like you've gone back in time to one of the Louis' reign. I believe some of the furniture is from one of those eras. My husband and I stood out like sore thumbs since we were the only two gawking at everything there - and the fact that we were not dressed appropriately for the palce. A drink at the bar is a must. It lets you saok in the place and truely takes you back in time.
The NEGRESCO HOTEL, on the Promenade des Anglais, is a living museum dedicated to its exclusive clientele. It is a symbol of the Belle Epoque that distinguished France at the turn of the century. The building is listed as a historic monument.
