    Promenade des Anglais.

Boulevard des Anglais during the day

It is essentially the main drag and focal point in the city. There are all kinds of hotels and cafes along this stretch of road. It is perfect to take an evening stroll. I would usually take a stroll after supper of 1 km. or more. Sometimes, when searching for an optimal part of the beach to relax, I would have to walk a ways during the time after class. That and the hills kept my (then) boyish figure in spite of all the good eating I did (particularly at the weekends away from school).

The promenade is where the locals & tourists come to parade. You'll be passed by joggers, cyclists, skaters & dog walkers as you stroll along it.

There are places to buy refreshments & plenty of seats where you can sit & take in the sun or people watch. The promenade semmed just as busy after dark as it did during the day. It was such a great place to sit & relax on a warm summer evening.

Walk on the Promenade des Anglais
This is a pedestrian zone along Nice's beach. You will see a lot of people walking, roller blading or simply enjoying the view of the beach...

The picture has been taken in March 2002. At that time, there was this exhibition of sculptures by Nikki de Sainte Phalle. I thought it added more life and a modern air to this elegant promenade.

Both elegant and simple, Nice's charm comes from its
exceptional climate as well as its beauty. Even
in the winter the café terraces are filled with
people happily drinking and contemplating the ultra famous
Promenade des Anglais. Always in flower this wonderful
walk follows along the bay, looking out onto
the Baie des Anges and the beaches on one side,
and on the other such luxury hotels
    as the Negresco.

On a recent return visit to Nice, my son encouraged me to parasail with him over the Cote d'Azur. We assumed the cost would be exhorbitant, but were delighted (and amazed) that it was a mere 30 Euros for two of us to take the dazzling ride over the coast of Nice. I will not forget the deep, navy blue waters sparkling far below our dangling feet, nor the curve of the shimmering coastline, replete with splendid hotels. It was indeed the highlight of our visit to several Mediterranean countries this summer.

    In evening

In all souvenir shops you can by a card with a view of sea and Promenade des Anglais. These two objects aren't detachable but Promenade has own charisma. There you can feel really relaxed. Simply walk and enjoy the rest.

Promenade des Anglais is one of the most popular sidewalks of Nice. I stayed in Nice for 3 weeks and nearlt every night I had a walk thorough this beautiful road.

You can see the crowded cafes, restaurants, in the daytime, you can encounter many poeple rollerskating or on scooters,.
Many hotels, both modern and Belle Epoque, museums and posh apartments, the Promenade des Anglais is a long wide road which runs the length of the seafront at Nice

city view from Promenad des Anglais

This busy strip following the coast line of the sea stretches from a part of the city to the other. There are bike lanes and a wide path for walking, there are stairs leading to the beaches below. This is a very active area all day any time of the day, it's nice to walk along the strip take in the fresh sea air and the wonderful views!!

    Nice shoreline

I recommend spending some time on the Promenade d'Anglais. There were several places to rent bicycles or rollerblades, or you can just walk along the promenade until your feet hurt. It goes for miles along the seashore of Nice.

My friend and I were in Nice in end of August 2006, the weather was brilliant, we had nothing to complain. Nice is a wonderful place but in my opinion it is a summer resort cause there are beaches and event he promenade des anglais is really enormous and beautiful. You can walk along without getting annoyed.
There are a lot of things to se in Nice and the old town is really fantastic, we took a mini train to the old town and we could see the panoramic view of Nice. There are good restaurants and pubs but we had chosen one restaurant and we always ate there .... the waiter was gorgeous by the way :)
If anyone likes antiques there is an antique market.
Ice-creams and crepes are great ... try them.

Grab a seat facing the water along the Promenade des Anglais and just sit.
It is perhaps my favourite thing to do in Nice, perhaps even more than swimming.

I bring a bottle of wine,a glass, a Nicoise Tuna Baguette and a local melon....
splifs, when used with caution, are OK after sundown.

The Promenade de Anglais is a place where so many different people stroll, chill, play, make music, do sports or have fun - all nations, all ages, all around the clock. A mix of languages constantly whirrles around your ears. A pleasure for all senses and very atmospheric, especially in the evening! Very safe. Just dip in and enjoy (but watch out for crazy Rollerbladers).

Promenade des Anglais (Walk of the English) . The construction of this long boulevard along the famous Nice beaches was originally paid for by money collected from wealthy English tourists who spent their English winters in Nice in the early 19th century. What was once just a foot and carriage path is now a busy thoroughfare which offers the best access to the beaches of Nice, which are jammed in summer.

The Negresco hotel is on the Promenade

The Promenade des Anglais is the long pedestrian street bordering the Nice seafront for kilometers. In my opinion, the Promenade is too much overestimated as a touristic attraction, but it is perfect for footing, skating and cycling in between the sea ad fabulous buildings.

Do you want to be seen ... or do you want to look at other people. The Promenade des Anglais is the place to be then. This long street, following the beach along the Baie des Anges, attracts all kinds of people. The Nice inhabitants walk by in the newest fashion, tourist strawl looking over sea and city, businessmen swiftly walk a bit during lunch, skaters glide by in a new sport outfit and sunbathing lovers cross it on their way to the beach. The promenade is hip and trendy and therefore a must do in Nice.
