 | Nice Vieux Nice/Old Town Reviews | Tips 11 - 20 of 63 | | We liked old town Nice more than the "new city." It was very pretty w/ brightly colored buildings, bricked streets, and vendors on every corner. The on-going (and very annoying, seems that it will go on forever since we did not see one worker!) construction is not in Old Nice, but in the dirty new part of town, so it is fairly quiet and fun to look around...great ice cream shops and creperies. The magical "Old Town" which vehicles can't access making it a pedestrian's heaven. Packed with shops, stalls, markets, bars, cafes etc and a delight to explore. During our last stay we rented an apartment right in the centre and we're looking forward to returning in 2006.

In the old town with its red-tiled roofs the narrow winding streets are packed with shops and small restaurants. You can buy wine by the bottle or the barrel (bring your own container) and an amazing variety of fresh-made ravioli and other pasta. Leave a Comment

There are a plenty of beautiful art galleries in old town. You can actually see artists working even as you step inside. The artist in the picture below was probably talking to his client.I loved his studio and all the paintings he had on display.

The Old Town is one of Nice's highlights. Narrow streets, lovely houses, little shops, markets.. You feel a bit like being warped to another city suddenly. Be sure to take a walk through it and breathe in the flair. Be carefull: There are many restaurants with their waiters trying to drag you in ("free drinks here") - most of them being a rip-off.

Vieux (old town) is Nice's oldest district, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, is filled with winding streets, workers' cafés and open-air markets. Despite the very chic shops that are appearing, the character still remains to make it a very enticing place to wander. The narrow streets are a kaleidoscope of yellow, orange and red stores, churches and cafes tend to look more Italian than French. While wandering through the old town, take a look at the 'ogival arches' above some of the shops, dating back to medieval times. They have been carefully restored, especially in the Rue du Pont Vieux and Rue de la Prefecture. . Leave a Comment

Visit the old town (Vieux Nice). This is where Cours Saleya, Place Rosetti etc. are. By day you can stroll around the narrow winding streets stopping off at a cafe for a drink and some people-watching and by night you can visit the many bars and restaurants. Although the Massena area is chic and gorgeous, Vieux Nice is where you'll find atmosphere and character. You can go there nearly every day of your stay in Nice and still find something new that you didn't notice before. Cours Saleya is where daily markets are held including an evening arts and crafts market and it is lined with cafes and restaurants. You really shouldn't miss it! Leave a Comment

Vieux Nice is Nice's oldest district, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. It is filled with winding streets, al fresco caf?s and open-air markets. Bars and restaurants are plentiful and people swarm there to soak up the atmosphere. Despite the very chic boutiques and art galleries that are making their appearance, the medieval character still remains, making it a very fascinating place to wander around and people watch. The narrow streets are lined on both sides by a kaleidoscope of yellow, orange and red Italian-style buildings, reflecting the strong Italian architectural influence in this part of France.
