    I love Old Nice. The streets are so beautiful and packed with delicious restaurants at every corner. Just walking around in the Vieux Nice is a perfect way to spend an afternoon. Wear comfortable shoes!

    I recommend wander about the winding streets of Vieux Nice, stopping for crepes and cafe au lait (served in very tiny cups). There are several nice places to eat, or many crepe and panini stands. There are all sorts of handicrafts, clothes, ceramics, much of everything.

    Nice, the settlement grew out to be a busy town with lot's of business and craftmenship. The central place where shops and markets appeared was at the foot of the castle hill. More and more houses were built and narrow alleys connected the small (market)squares and oneother, creating a cosy maze of streets. Now-a-days still the old atmosphere can be smelled, tasted and felt in these streets. A walk through them is a dazzling adventure of colours and smells, plus ... you just have to stop and try various typical Nicoise products. Hmm, it's deliscious!

    Nikaia, now-a-days called Nice, started out as a Ligurian settlement that was soon turned into an important anchoring place for the Greek settlers that named the city. Of this period little is left, as after the Greeks, the Romans took over and built there magnificent infrastructure right on top of the Greek fundaments. Up hill, the oldest region of Nice: Cimiez, has many reminders of this era, including a very interesting museum about how Nice started out. Ruines in Cimiez are a arena, a few villa's, parts of an aquaduct and a tempel shaped complex.

  • Old Nice was probably the best part, and a short walk from our hotel. Its buildings have a classic old Mediterranean style of architecture, and the cobblestone streets were filled with various food and crafts markets, outdoor cafes, and boutiques.

    Old Town is, in my opinion, the only true way to experience Nice. With it's rich history and its quaint , winding corridors that open up into various plaza's, Old Town is a must see. The pedestrian only streets cater to small shops and cafe's and at night the town is dimly lit which gives it a very old world feel. While the hip night life and action may be in modern Nice, the heart and soul of the city resides in Old Town.

    Take a stroll through Old Nice. It's narrow, winding streets allows plenty of exploring opportunities. On Tuesday-Saturdays at Cours Saleya, there are flower and food market stalls to enjoy.

    The Old Town is absolutely incredible. I have been to many places in Europe, and I have NEVER found anything with as much charm as Nice's old city. There was just so much to see and look at! During the day go shopping and meander through the very narrow streets, and between noon and 9 pm take advantage of all the happy hour specials! 3E cocktails!

    I could go on and on for ever about how beautiful the old city is, but you will have to see it for yourself to truly know what I am talking about!
