 | | | | Vieux Nice/Old Town: Ancient history, the place where it all began | | | | | |
Nikaia, now-a-days called Nice, started out as a Ligurian settlement that was soon turned into an important anchoring place for the Greek settlers that named the city. Of this period little is left, as after the Greeks, the Romans took over and built there magnificent infrastructure right on top of the Greek fundaments. Up hill, the oldest region of Nice: Cimiez, has many reminders of this era, including a very interesting museum about how Nice started out. Ruines in Cimiez are a arena, a few villa's, parts of an aquaduct and a tempel shaped complex. Leave a Comment Address: Nice Cimiez
