La Palette or Little Gallery: Great place for Cocteau items, next to the chapel
This shop was once owned by an older woman - I think I bought a ceramic plate from her 13 years ago. It's now owned by a couple. I met the husband that day, and he was more than happy to discuss Cocteau with me.
What to buy: Here, Cocteau items for all budgets (*ahem*) are sold including ceramics, prints, jewelry, t-shirts and postcards.
What to pay: Anywhere from a few euros to thousands.

Brocante - "Bric-a-brac"
A regular weekly brocante (bric-a-brac) market is held mostly Sundays but sometimes other days in season, in front of the Cocteau-decorated church near Porte Sante. ( A larger antique fair with more serious looking pieces is usually to be found by the Octroi bus stop at the main Nice - Monaco road). The stalls opposite the church do a flourishing trade with lunchtime diners and "boat people" killing a little time waiting for their tender back to their floating hotels parked in the bay. Inexpensive jewellery, stones of semi-precious minerals, knick knacks and small items of home decor, twenties posters of things "French" printed on canvas. Ideal for little mementos of your visit to Villefranche.
For the stall-holders, the trade seems as much a social affair as a business. This lady is a real character with her jewellery stall. On this occasion she had her four-legged "companion" with her, and I couldn't resist snapping the pair. Maybe its me but I think there is some truth that dogs look like their owners. Or may be vice versa.
