Le Valentin: FINE DINING IN BREST

by LoriPori

Hans and I, along with Jean and Nel dined at this fabulous little restaurant in Brest LE VALENTIN . It was warm and cozy and tastefully decorated. We started out with our red wine and appetizer. It was a pate'. Next was our main entree' of duck a l'orange. Although quite tasty, I found it a little heavy especially with the rich sauce. For dessert we had a flambe'. Overall it was a marvelous treat.

Like fresh croissants, French bread, hot and cold cereals, French jams and marmalades, yogourt and juice, coffee or teas. An absolute bargain at 4Euros per person.Remember to order your breakfast when you check in to the hotel.

?: Best French restaurants

by chess_machine

French restaurants bible is called "le Guide Michelin".It is a 500 pages (at least) red book that lists all the good French restaurants and give them a mark, from 0 star to 3 stars. Notice that the notation is subtile: 0 star doesnt mean the restaurant is awful. It is already a good restaurant since it has been listed on the Guide. Basically, restaurants that already have 1 star provide very high quality food, 2 stars excellent food and 3 stars exceptionnal. There are very few 3 stars restaurant, around 20-30 in the WHOLE France. I personally never had the chance to eat in one of them but it is like if you are going to a gastronomy temple. Among most famous 3 stars are: Lucas-Carton and La Tour d'Argent. Everybody knows them. Well, if you want to have one of your best gastonomy experience in your life, and you are ready to spend at least a 150-200€ bill by person, 3 stars restaurant will...

La Cave: La Cave - A troglodyte restaurant

by 807Wheaton

The picture here is from the brochure we got while we were at La Cave restaurant. This troglodyte restaurant is in the heart of Touraine where you are greeted to the unusual surroundings of a large cave hollowed out of the soft limestone "tuffeau" or tuffa. The Loire area of France is known for its limestone castles and the Limoges area is know for china and porcelain. People used to live in the caves from the quarries, which you will pass when driving to La Cave restaurant. There is a cheery fire lit when you walk in La Cave and it helps to provide ambiance needed to enjoy an evening in a cave. The rooms continue to go back further and further and do indeed have a slight musty odor. We were seated near the front and enjoyed a beautiful view of the staircase and diners entering and leaving. The tables were decorated with very colorful placemats and napkins and there were fresh flower...

HOSTELLERIE DU PONT DE GAU: In the heart of La Camargue

Next to the ornithologic park, in the heart of the regional park of La Camarge. Typical regional food. Lovely service. I tested an outstanding "ensalade provenzal" and "toro" (stew bull). Both typical regional dishes.
