    History at the airport

    Blriot XI

Favorite thing: If you fly into Chambery airport to go to Aime, have a look at the strange airplane hanging from the ceiling. This aircraft is the Blériot XI. It is the plane that Louis Blériot flew accross the English Channel in 1909 thus demonstrating to the world that transport by air was actually not such a wild idea.

Have a break, have a mulled wine

View outside after a mulled wine break

Favorite thing: The runs are all misty, it's snowing, the temperature has dropped down way below freezing point and your legs start aching? Remember you're not here to break a leg so take a break, stop at a chalet and have a mulled wine, a hot chocolate or a coffee, something to warm you up. Don't rush it and when you're done, go back to meet the weather your batteries recharged. You never know, during your break, the clouds might have drifted away and you could be greeted with a fantastic view.

    Go all the way up

    Untouched snow on the glacier

Favorite thing: Going up to Bellecote glacier is a must. The view is absolutely fantastic, the runs are tremendous but it is not for the faint hearted. If you are a beginner, don't take the last ski lift up, stop at the top of the "eggs" and go down the blue runs. If you are an intermediate skier, do take the last lift up and enjoy the (dark) red run. If you are an expert, go up and have fun on the two black runs. If you are a nutcase, go skiing off piste from the top. Whatever you do, don't forget to enjoy the view.

Get down to base with no hassle

Wide easy blue run going back

Favorite thing: A very good thing about La Plagne's ski area is that the runs you need to take to go back down to the village are actually quite easy going. This means that, when the end of the day comes and you start feeling tired, your last run down will not be too difficult. So you can take it easy and avoid serious injury.

    Snowy tracks at Aime's station

Fondest memory: I quite like Aime's train station. It is one of those typical small stations you find all over the place in France. But the one unusual thing it's got is its setting in the middle of the mountains.

    Sunsets out of this world

Late afternoon sun on pristine snow

Fondest memory: Mountain landscapes at the end of the day, when the sun starts disappearing behind the peaks, are absolutely fantastic. La Plagne on a good day will not disappoint you.
