My husband enjoys competitive racing, he usually does several triathalons, 5K runs and long distance swim races every summer so this seemed like a perfect way for him to combine a vacation to Europe and participate in a race.
The Traverse du Lac is set on the beautiful Lac d'Annecy every year on August 15th, the cliffs towering over the start, the goal is the castle on the other side of the lake.
We ran across someone who was going to the race and followed them to the start, it was directly across the lake from the castle and we were lucky enough to find a free parking spot just a short distance away. When we asked how do the swimmers get back, they shrugged and said "of course you can walk".

so much choice around annecy to ski.
the biggest ski resorts around are La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand, and Megeve.
i ll strongly advise you if you are going to one of these when it s the ski season to leave early in the morning as the 3 ski resorts share the same road on the first 30.35 km from Annecy and you could end up being frustated in traffic.
ski resorts like La Marjoria are quieter but much smaller.
