The Lake, Annecy
take a stroll around the lake, it s a really nice atmosphere and in the summer time lots of people just seating around in the park in front of the"prefecture".
or you can take a ferry boat and discover the surrendings of the lake.
or rent a pedalo.
there are also a few beach if you d rather have a swim and relax.
It s the second natural lake of france by its size.
It is said to be one of europe most purest lake.
Every year, the first saturday of august there is "la fete du lac"(the lake party) with some aquatic shows ( music, fire-works ,lazer lights)which attracts about 250000 spectators.
The "fete du lac" took it s origin when emporor Napoleon 3 and the empress Eugenie met in Annecy in 1860 to celebrate the Savoie being united to France. in their honnor, the town organised a lakeside party.
Tha area around Lake Annecy is naturally an entirely different vista to that of the Old Town. The beauty however, is every bit as magnificent as the town. The amazing thing is that the two are actually joined together but if you wander towards the lake from the Old Town you will only venture one or two hundred meters but the feeling is that of having travelled to an entirely different location.
Once again the photo opportunities are absolutely endless, most especially when the weather is good.
There are several choices for cruises on Lake Annecy, most of them only of 1 hour duration with no stops, so we took the Omnibus cruise (cost 13E per adult) as it took 2 hours and this one made about 7 stops at various villages around the lake, so we could get a closer glimpse.
We also saw beaches, a couple more castles from a distance, and houses with their own jetties right at the edge of the lake.
I didn't do this, wanted to, but ran out of time!
Just to let you know there are Lake cruise's, and the one I took the photo of is this one.
Grand Lac Lake Cruise, that is a cruise around the lake with out stops for 1 hour.
Then there is another cruise for 1 hour, that stops at various ports.
Also 2 hour cruise's and more!
It is best to check the website below for running times, departure times and price's.
This is a wonderful way to see the lake. There are several options - you can choose a shorter 1 hour tour or a 2 hour tour which gives stops at different points around the lake and lets you get off to see the other villages near Annecy. Try it on a sunny clear day for the best views and experience. You can also choose to have a lunch or dinner option which is a 2 hour tour. The dinner tour has additional dancing after the cruise and ends after midnight. If you like the menu and can afford it, this is very nice. Prices without the meals are very reasonable too (under 12€).
There is a Lake Festival in Annecy with fireworks (2004 is on August 7) and the cruises have special dinner menus for that night.
They have a very nice website that even lists the menus available on the lunch and dinner cruises.
Open April - early November
I came here from Geneva by bus from Geneva's Gare Routiere (Bus Station). You can also come from paris by TGV. Lake Annecy is one of the most beautiful lake in Europe. The old city next to the lake is superb and utmost picturesque. Take time and walk aroun from the city to the lake side and take pictures. You will enjoy the towering rocky mountains just from the lake water level.
For those with more energy than is necessary when you take a cruise, there are a number of water sports available. Or maybe you would prefer to sunbake on a deck chair on the pontoon.
Water skiiing, kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding etc. They are all available, at a cost of course, but I am sure it would be worth the cost.
You may prefer to just sit on the sidelines and watch. I could think of worse things to do on a warm sunny day.
There are several boat companies which provide short or long tours on the lake. We prefered a 30 minutes tour in a small wooden boat from "Bateaux Dupraz". The captain is also the guide and he stops his boat here and there to give info about how the lake became the purest one in Europe. He also shows who is living in the prestigious dwellings around the lake. Call it "glance at a Vip's backyard" tourism. It was a very entertaining boat trip.
There are several lake cruises every day which last for an hour or two and are quite affordable (12 Euro in 2011). Some are non-stop right around the Lake whilst others have stops at the little towns and so can be used as a Hop On Hop Off type transport on water, I guess.
The lake is really spectacular especially on a nice sunny day. The mountains encircle it like silent sentinels and the whole picture is amazing.
My only complaint was that on my cruise, the narration was in French. i would really have liked to know what it was they were talking about but I certainly didn't allow that to interfere with my enjoyment of the magnificent panorama.
The second largest lake in France, Lake Annecy is also known as "Europe's cleanest lake". This should come as no surprise after seeing its sparkling blue water..... complimented by the surrounding mountains, Lake Annecy makes for quite a picturesque scene.
There are several walking paths and roads around Lake Annecy; otherwise, a boat tour is a great way to explore. In addition, by boat you'll be able to get some great views of the impressive chateaux that dot the shoreline.
Cost & Time: 10-15 euro for 1-2 hour itineraries.
Bottom-line: An excellent way to branch out of the city, as well as appreciate the crystal clear water and the notable environs of Lake Annecy.
I get the story in Annecy's lake, the are second largest lake in France after Lac du Bourget. The lake is reputed to be the cleanest in Europe due to strict regulations introduced in the 60's.
Is look like free huge pool, but i visited at wrong season,we can't swim in cold water,is to bad.
Annecy is probably best known for its lake and on returning to the town for the first time since my childhood it was the first thing I wanted to see (and the thing I most distinctly remembered too). The town is on one side of the lake, while on the other three sides the mountains provide a magnificent backdrop.
Here are some of the wonderful views we had on our 2 hour cruise of Lake Annecy.
It was particularly lovely to see the contrast between the snow caps on the mountains and the deep green of the lake.
The big lake is one thing you really must see. The view on the mountains (Swiss Alps) is great here!
