Having heard so much about the select poultry of Bresse, we decided to splurge and eat at the Auberge. (It is rated 4 forks and one rosette by Michelin). It lived up to our expectations. We selected a lunch featuring poularde de Bresse a la creme aux champignons (their specialty). If we had had more time in the area we would have stayed at and eaten with Georges Blanc in Vonnas (See Restaurant Tip by sylvie-uk) which is world famous, but I cannot see how it would have been better than this! And then there was the al fresco "floor show" across the way at the church to accompnany our meal.

We ate the famous Bresse chicken, and 3 other courses besides that.
The dessert trolley was absolutely fabulous. After choosing we ended up with 3 desserts each!
Favorite Dish: The Bresse chicken was wonderful. It comes served 'roti' or simply roasted, with it's little metal ring around one of its legs to prove that it is actually a Bresse-chicken, the best in the world.
Good thing that we were staying at this hotel because after such a copious meal I couldn't have walked another step.

the restaurant has been rated as one of the best in france and is situated in the cute flowery Vonnas village.
Georges Blanc is the fourth of a generation who have managed a restaurant in Vonnas. no wonder that the cuisine is delightful, skills must have been passed on.
you will find traditional french dishes and a few dishes particular to the region( poulet a la creme...)
It has a really warm atmosphere inside and could choose to eat in the room overlooking the canal.
Favorite Dish: all good, it s very expensive but if if you are a food lover then once in your life it s probably great to try it.
