Favorite thing: In one of my other tips, I wrote that it's convenious to have a hiking map. They are for sale at the Tourism Office (Visitors centre). However, if you prefer a cheop option, the read what's coming next...
On all major attractions, for instance at the places of departure and arrival of the tramways and the gondolas, where hikers generally start their hike, there are large map boards, mentioning "Vous êtes ici" (You are here) and showing the hike paths of the area.
When you take a photo of a part of this map, you can recall it on your camera screen, zooming and scrolling.
Of course, it's even easyer when you take photos of the real map on the forehand.
Very convenient when you need to take out reading glasses from your backpack each time you want to take a look at your map.

Favorite thing: We use to associate Chamonix to... snow and cold. In our visit (in August) we were surprised by a extreme heat, that forced us to refresh the kids wherever it was possible.
In a few minutes, in "Mer de glace" we passed from the high heat to the negative temperatures that we expected, fearing consequences to the boys - no problem, and Chamonix is prepared to supply all the needed freshness.

Favorite thing: Is your bottle of water getting heated in your backpack after a long hike in the sun?
No problem. A short break at one of the snow layers will cool your water.
