The writer and philosopher Voltaire spent the last 20 years of his in a chateau on the edge of Ferney.

This chateau and pretty grounds are open to the public every day but Monday. It is worth a visit to those who are interested in Voltaire, his philosophies and the way that they effected those around him.

On every Saturday, Ferney Voltaire opens its market all over the town center. They have interesting fruits, cheese, clothes. wine, and so on. Its good to visit FV on Saturdays.

From Geneva, take F bus from the central station. It takes about 20 minutes. Don't forget you passport if you come here from Switzerland, you are going to France and Switzerland is not an EU country.

This is probably the most interesting regular event in Ferney Voltaire. A large market offering everything from carrots to carpets is held every Saturday morning in the centre of Ferney. It attracts visitors from allover the region, but particularly from the Geneva region (food prices are generally lower in France than in Switzerland).
