ENTER TO THE MUSEUM, IT IS FREE!
Since January 1st, 2004, the departmental museums being a matter for the General Council of the Isere are free for all (Iserois and foreigners).
Are concerned by this measure the 9 following establishments :
- the museum of the Revolution française, Vizille
- the departmental museum of Saint - Antoine the Abbey
- the Hebert museum, La Tronche,
- the museum Hector Berlioz, La Cote Saint-André,
- the museum dauphinois, Grenoble,
- the museum of the Resistance and the Deportation of the Isere, Grenoble,
- the museum of the former Bishopric, Grenoble,
- the museum of the white Coal, Lancey *
- the archaeological museum / Church saint-Laurent (Grenoble) *,
*ces last two museums being closed currently to the public for works.
The free entry for all iserois in all departmental museums becomes a reality from January 2, 2004, after have been introduced previously since June 2001 for the claimants of employment, the young of less than 25 years and the first Sunday of every month for the set of the public, then spread January first, 2003 to every Wednesday.
Here are eight departmental museums that will welcome you free therefore (the ninth, the archaeological museum of the church Saint-Laurent, being in works for two years).

Depuis le 1er janvier 2004, les musées départementaux relevant du Conseil Général de l'Isère sont gratuits pour tous (Isérois et non Isérois).
Sont concernés par cette mesure les 9 établissements suivants :
- le musée de la Révolution française, Vizille
- le musée départemental de Saint-Antoine L'Abbaye
- le musée Hébert, La Tronche,
- le musée Hector Berlioz, La Cote Saint-André,
- le musée dauphinois, Grenoble
- le musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation de l'Isère, Grenoble
- le musée de l'Ancien Evêché, Grenoble
- le musée de la Houille blanche, Lancey*
- le musée archéologique / Eglise saint-Laurent (Grenoble)*,
*ces deux derniers musées étant actuellement fermés au public pour travaux.
L'entrée gratuite pour tous les isérois dans tous les musées départementaux devient une réalité à partir du 2 janvier 2004, après avoir été préalablement introduite dès juin 2001 pour les demandeurs d'emploi, les jeunes de moins de 25 ans et le premier dimanche de chaque mois pour l'ensemble du public, puis étendue le premier janvier 2003 à tous les mercredis.
Voici donc huit musées départementaux qui vous accueilleront gratuitement (le neuvième, le musée archéologique de l'Eglise Saint-Laurent, étant en travaux pour deux ans).

Le parcours de visite conduit le public sous le parvis de la Place Notre Dame à la découverte de l'enceinte romaine de la ville et du premier baptistère de Grenoble.

Ouvert depuis 1994, ce jeune jardin est déjà considéré comme un des plus gros jardins de France.
Ce fut un véritable défi de redonner vie à d'anciennes tufières qui représentent un remarquable patrimoine naturel.
Ce merveilleux jardin d'eau aura nécessité 2 ans de travaux, 400 tonnes de bois et près de 5000 tonnes de matériaux divers. Un véritable feu d'artifice floral s'offre aux yeux des visiteurs grâce aux quelques 18 000 plantes, arbres et arbustes.
Un vaste tour du monde botanique avec plantes de rocailles, méditerranéennes, aquatiques et exotiques...
Un autre aspect des plus insolites y est mis en évidence : une des nombreuses sources qui coulent dans le jardin a pour caractéristique de posséder un taux considérable de calcaire qui lui permet d'être à l'origine du processus particulier de la pétrification.
Les merveilleux bassins de pierre qui ornent le site sont le résultat des 40 000 ans d'activité de cette eau. Sous cette source sont disposés de nombreux objets qui en quelques mois sont recouverts d'une pellicule de calcite. Ils sont ainsi transformés en véritables joyaux scintillants.

Construit par Jean-Auguste Questel, le premier bâtiment frappait par l'harmonie de ses volumes et la clarté de son plan. Devant l'augmentation des collections, il est pourtant devenu trop exigu. La construction d'une nouvelle infrastructure était inévitable. Rénové par Olivier et Antoine Félix-Faure, Philippe Macary (architectes) et Lorenzo Piqueras (chargé de la muséographie), le musée fut inauguré en janvier 1994.
Continuité historique du XIVe siècle à nos jours avec les points forts suivants : peintures d'histoire des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles français, ensemble de quatre Zurbaran, Matisse et les fauves, abstraction et géométrie, art contemporain depuis 1945.

Visits organized on appointment. Installed in the former Hotel of Lesdiguières, then city hall of Grenoble, the museum retraces the life of the big writer. The lounges of the XVIIIème century presents the portraits of Stendhal, those of his/her/its parents and friends, of the autographs and the original editions of the author of " the red and the black ".
Opening: every day of 14h to 18h (except Monday).
Of All Saints' Day at Easter, opened Saturday and Sunday solely, of 14h to 18h.
Timetables of summer: of July 15 to September 15, of 9h to 12h and 14h to 18h, except Monday and holidays.

The museum was founded in 1796 from the revolutionary seizures and the consignments of the state. Two curators played a role of first plan: Louis - Joseph Jay (1755-1836), that worked to the museum of 1796 to 1815 and that put it in place; Andry-Farcy, curator of 1919 to 1949, who constituted the collection of modern art of the museum.
Constructs by Jean - Augustus Questel, the first building hit by the harmony of his/her/its volumes and the clarity of his/her/its plan. Before the increase of the collections, he/it yet became too tiny. The construction of a new infrastructure was unavoidable. Renovated by Olivier and Antoine Felix - Faure, Philippe Macary (architects) and Lorenzo Piqueras (loaded of the muséographie), the museum was inaugurated in January 1994.
Historic continuity of the XIVe century on our days with the following strong points: paintings of history of the XVIIes and XVIIIes French centuries, set of four Zurbarans, Matisse and the fawn, abstraction and geometry, contemporary art since 1945.

Les collections proviennent des fouilles archéologiques effectuées sur le site et s'échelonnent du IIIème siècle après J.-C. à nos jours. Situé sur la rive droite de l'Isère, le musée présente des vestiges permettant de remonter le temps jusqu'aux origines du christianisme.
Le musée est installé dans une église bénédictine du XIIème siècle. Découverte en 1803 par J. J. Champollion-Figeac, frère de l'égyptologue. L'église est un des premiers monuments classés en France, grâce à l'intervention de Prosper Mérimée, inspecteur des monuments historiques. Depuis 1978, une fouille systématique est menée dans le cadre d'un programme de recherche régional sur l'évolution des églises durant le Haut Moyen Age.
