O'Callaghan Irish Pub: Source of Guinness

O'Callaghan Pub

O'Callaghan is like a piece of Ireland transferred to the French Alps. The pub looks and feels Irish inside, but once you get to the patio, the almost mediterranean sunshine automatically tells that you are far far away from Ireland.

All major Irish drinks are available, including Guinness. The place is an excellent stop before visiting some French restaurant in the nearby area.

The pub is crowded during weekday evenings, and you may have hardships to find a place to sit -- especially, if you are in a larger group.

Barberousse: Another great little place

This is a bar specialized in Rhum... There are at least 50 different fruit flavored rhums and of course a variety of other drinks. You almost feel like you're on a pirate ship when you walk in.
There is a wide variety of music and the people are friendly.
This place is often jam packed as well! Great place to hang out in the evening.

Dress Code: Go as you like.

Le Cybernet Café: A great café....

This is one of your great modern day cafés in the heart of town. The service is great, the people are friendly, the drinks, well, when looking at the list you just don't know what to choose... really a great hang out with a variety of music. On the week ends, it's jam packed, especially on Saturdays. The other days is a bit more calm for those who like to just sit and have a discussion between friends.
You'll find me there every Saturday and sometimes during the week. Go there!

Dress Code: Ok, you can dress any way you like for this place. (as long as you're not half naked). You're not allowed to bring in food because they serve some themselves, and you're not allowed to play cards... (the French like playing cards). One rule though: just have a good time and order a couple of drinks.

There are many busy bars...

There are many busy bars centered around Place Notre Dame, there is the London Pub which has 2 floors and is packed with all nationalities every night, (open until 1am), there is cafe notre dame which is also a popular student haunt, (open until 1am), and the couche tard, (open until 2 am), where I worked for 1 year. The couche Tard has happy hours every night from 8-10pm and is extremely lively, it is popular with locals and students alike and will normally always have british bar persons working there and dancing on tables is a common practise. Of course there are many other bars but these 3 were the most popular with foreign students.
Nightclubs are ok but dont get too excited, drinks are expensive and the music is not fantastic but it's somewhere to go after the bars shut. The most popular for nightclub for students is the Vieux Manior in Rue St Laurent, there is free entrance on thursdays for everyone but you must pay on friday and saturdays to enter the nightclub, there is a bar aswell inside which is free to enter on thursdays, fridays and saturdays and it stays open until 5 am, my advice is to go the the bar rather than pay for entrance into the nightclub.
The bars in Grenoble are always busy until mid-june, then all the students return to their countries and the city becomes quieter. It is a fantastic place to study and to meet people of all nationalities, (british, spanish, scandinavian, dutch, american, mexican, brazilian).

Dress Code: to be honest i have never seen anybody turned away from the bars and clubs i have mentioned, i don't think there is a dress code.

It's cheap firstly, only 10F (approx1.5 Euros) for all drinks, but you have to pay 20F for a pint, which is still cheap. The other reason to go there is because they play reggae, r'n'b, hip hop and other stuff which makes for a chilled out atmosphere and everyone is friendly.

It's the best rhumerie in Grenoble: the rhum tastes great, the music is good, the people are relaxed and there to party and have fun and the decors is really cool. The bar is very tiny and there's wood everywhere: you have the feeling to be inside one of those pirate ships. It's definitely my favorite spot in Grenoble!
