The Bastille which overlooks the city can be reached by a cable car which costs 35F. Walk the path to the top, it doesn't cost anything and it's much better exercise. Leave a Comment

by schielen Valfréjus is a rather cheap skiing-resort. The prices for food and drinks on the pistes are quite the opposite! A cup of tea costs you FF 20 (3 US$), a plate of french fries with saucages more than twice that price. It's better to buy something in the (only) grocery-store in the village, and take that with you in a small back-pack. Leave a Comment

One thing that always catches me out in France and especially in Grenoble is the "Lazy Sunday" There are no food shops open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are one or 2 exceptions but these close at midday!
One alternative is get yourself to the great food markets on Sunday. The "Marche d"estacade" is fab - with lots of local farmers selling fresh products. This market is under the railway tacks between the train station and Jean Jaures. Leave a Comment
