Boucle des pissus
JosM Says:
On of the most beautiful hiking trails that we ever followed. One may find a feaflet with a description of the tour in the shop along the road toward the Col the la Madeleine in Bonneval. In Gelon, at the parking lot, we started the “randonnée familiale”. The estimated...
Wooden sculptures
JosM Says:
Along the streets one remarks many wooden sculptures. They are very attractive and deserve one's attention during a village visit. 3 of them are shown, but there are many more. I had them pictured, but because my camera was stolen while shopping, you will have to go and see...
La belle ballade
JosM Says:
La belle ballade is a nice, easy hiking trail in and around Valmorel. It has good path signs and is ideal for a first day in the mountains (to adapt to altitude and terrain).
Club Med Valmorel: Club Med Valmorel We had an excellent stay !!
Mieke01 Says:
We stayed at Club Med’s brand new resort in Valmorel. The Club Med ‘village’ is a five minute drive from the pretty centre with its nice shops and cosy chalet-style restaurants and bars. The luxury bedrooms are stylish and comfortable with flat screens TVs, nice bathroom.The...
Club Med Valomrel: The newest Club Med resort
Dinoo Says:
First experience with Club Med and delighted. This is the latest Club Med resort, opened 18th December 2011. Nice and clean, great service. Everybody is helpful and friendly. Easily reached by car, train (up to Moutiers, then shuttle from hotel) or airplane (Genève.).This was...
Residence Le Cheval Blanc: Usual Self-catering appartment
Djinn76 Says:
This is a usual self-catering appartment as you can find many in any skiing resort. Nice, new and functionnal but not too many space inside (unless you are less than the recommended number of people). What was particularly nice about this one is that from outside, it didn't...
La Perelle: Restaurant and hotel...
Djinn76 Says:
This is indeed a two stars hotel with a restaurant and terrasse available to anyone...It is located at the top of Saint François Longchamp, the other resort of the domain. If you come by ski, it is easily accessible via the green run called 'La route du Tour' (indeed, during...
Skiroc: Quiet place to kill the time...
Djinn76 Says:
Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to taste the food. We have spent an afternoon playing cards waiting for the key of our appartments.Really a nice place: all furnitures are made with old-looking wood. The view from the window is awesome. The service is quite...
Le Grenier: Traditional food
Djinn76 Says:
I 've been here with a huge group of people. Our choice was limited to the usual tartiflette, fondue savoyarde and raclette.I picked the raclette, this is indeed a big half cheese that is progressively melted. The service was paritcularly nice and friendly considering the...
Electronic Ski-pass
Djinn76 Says:
As in Avoriaz, here as well we get an "electronic ski pass"...However you quickly realise, it is not so convenient! In the first case, you can leave the pass in your pocket and it will be automatically detected when you enter a lift; perfect and easy! In this case, the...
Le Col
Djinn76 Says:
This is a long runs of 3 km later extended by another run called 'la Route du Tour'!! Why a tourist trap? Because there is no slope, this is simply a flat path even climbing up at some points!! This is already boring to do with skis, I don't dare to imagine the feelings of...
Col de la Madeleine
Helpfulness
JosM 299 reviews
On our 2nd day, we drove towards the Col de la Madeleine, well known by cycling fans (Tour de France). We did the 15 km climb by car, but on our way we crossed many cyclsits who wanted to experience the Tour-de-France-in-the-Alps-feeling. We saw marvellous landscapes and iddyllic villages (a.o. Celliers) on our way to the top.
You will find several restaurants/hotels and a gift shop at the top of the col.

Le Gollet
Djinn76 Says:
If you are staying in Valmorel, this is the last slope to be sunny in the afternoon...In fact, it is sunny most of the day, there are two runs off the ski-lift. A black one and a red one! The slope is the same for both, the only difference is that the red run is groomed...
La Lauziere
Djinn76 Says:
Not so obvious to arrive at the bottom oh this chairlift!! The only way is to go through tedious flat runs (Col - Route du Tour). However once you are there, think twice before taking this chairlift, the only way to get down is take eiter a black or a red run!!The red runs is...
Le mur
Djinn76 Says:
This is a nice steep slope allowing to go back to Valmorel without using the boring ski-lift called 'le Frene'.At hte time we were there however, there was a big stone directly in the middle of the runs that was not correctly indicated!!To arrive here from the center of the...
La Madeleine
Djinn76 Says:
This is the main junction between the two valleys. If you want to ski from Valmorel to St Francois de Longchamp, you don't have the choice you will have to pass through this point....Several lifts and many runs are originating from here.To go back to Valmorel, you will most...
Saint-François-Longchamp
Djinn76 Says:
This is the other resort of "le grand Domaine". As you can see on the picture the architecture is already much less attractive.Quite funny: this is quite fast to go from Valmorel to Saint-François by ski. However if we have to take the car, that would take more than an hour...
Valmorel
Djinn76 Says:
Charming resort with a traditional architecture respecting the mountain. Local people are also quite friendly...The only drawback of this resort is the fact it is splitted in different parts linked by the 'Telebourg', a cable car working only untill 11:30pm. If you want to...
