These must be viewed. Take a camera with you. The colours of the old silk workers houses are fantastic, usually a soft geranium,a wet paster colour. Many, like the ones at Chartres, have outside staircase spiralling up the buildings which are often 5 or 6 storeys high. Don't forget though, that the actual Traboules, the passages that lead you into the courtyards, are actually privately owned and if you see a notice saying so do not enter the Traboules.
