Great French restaurant in Vieux Lyon. Superbly decorated restaurant in ancient style over two levels but still small and cosy. The cuisine is French with a wide variety of meat and fish along with local specialities. Frequented by locals and hopefully it will remain as a "hidden treasure".
Favorite Dish: Favorite dish in a French restaurant ? C'mon, everything on the meny is delicious!

Very popular restaurant situated in the La Mercière-street in Lyon which is full of restaurants. Dark and minimalistic decorated. The restaurant is quite often full so be prepared to wait at the bar before being seated. Serves delicious pasta at a reasonable price. Frequented mostly by locals. Very nice place to start the evening.

A friend live in Lyon told me the building used to be the train station. That's why they can serve more than 100 guests at the same time.
Favorite Dish: They have a very special dessert. Looks like a cake but taste like ice cream. Try it!

Lyon's reputatin for cuisine has been carved out by the bones of the cookeries of this twon. But the bouchons, the homely bistros are where the key is to a true meal.
Favorite Dish: Cardons:
A vegetabel that looks like Swiss chard but acutally belongs to the artichoke family. Goes really well au gratin with beef marrow.
Yummy!

Traditional Lyonnais restaurants are called Bouchon. (It means cork as in bottle of wine).
This one is particularly good value as the menu in the evening is at 19 Euros and there is a fantastic choice of starters and main courses which you can mix and match.
RESERVATIONS OBLIGATORY - it's very popular
Favorite Dish: I LOVE tablier de Sapeur. The Andouillette is also excellent but if you're feeling less adventurous you can go for the Salmon or the duck!

They have all manner of baked goods, but they also have savoury food for a light lunch such as quiche and sandwiches.
Favorite Dish: I had Quiche Lorraine because I don't trust most restaurants to make sandwiches the way I want them. The quiche was great, but Brioche Dorée is a huge chain.

Rue des Marronniers is a street close to Place Bellecour full of very nice restaurants full of local dishes.
Favorite Dish: The local culinary specialties are plentiful and varied: pork products and "Cervelle de Canuts" soft cheese with herbs, "bugnes" beignets, fried pork fat, Lyonnais salad, "tablier de sapeur" tripes, "gras double" tripes, "petit salé" ham with lentils, "quenelles" dumplings (a mixture of butter, semolina and fish), black pudding, "andouillette" chitterling sausage, "paillasson" fried hashed potatoes, and more, if you're still hungry!
