At the junction of the quai St. Vincent (number 49) and rue Martiniere is an apartment block whose facade is covered with a fresco of famous people of Lyon from the 19C. Among them are the Lumiere brothers (lower right, number 1 picture) the first creators of moving pictures and others placed in the building seen in others views (example Ampere). On many other streets there are other scenes of the city.
In Lyon, the walls tell stories.... This is the kingdom of trompe l'oeil, paintings, creating a world of fantasy and poetry with more than 150 painted walls.
Lyon is said to have 150 large-scale trompe l'oeil murals scattered around the city. The ones I have seen show an astonishing attention to detail.
Here is one example.
