For a first time visitor to Lyon it is important to know that most one-way streets have a separate lane for buses and taxis that comes in the OPPOSITE direction of other cars.
It means that while you're looking to the right for traffic to stop in a one-way street, buses and taxis would come from the left (most likely in 60 km/h).
Lot's of people I know, including myself, have been centimeters from an accident not having paid attention to this in the beginning. So remember always look left and right before passing. Leave a Comment

Lyon is pretty safe but avoid some suburbs (banlieux) such as Vaux en Velins, venissieux etc..and Bron WHICH IS SMELLY AND UGLY (industrial area) Leave a Comment

Always keep an eye on the pavement - especially when walking along the river banks! The French love dogs and they unfortunately use the street as their toilet - nobody seems to care ... Leave a Comment

Safe city, but nonetheless big city. Beware of pickpockets, like anywhere else.

Svercalo se nas cca.15 ljudi u busu na stadion gdje je Hrvatska nogometna reprezentacija na Svjetskom prvenstvu pobijedila Njemacku 3:0. Razgledali stadion. Vracali se natrag istim busom. Sofer zvao mobitelom 'bakule' (kontrolore),a mi to nismo vidjeli. Doslo njih 9 na zadnju stanicu gdje smo trebali sici. Kazna je bila 180F po osobi. mi im tvrdili da smo vec 10-ti dan u Francuskoj i da smo potrošili vec sve pare. Na kraju smo se uspjeli cjenkati i spustiti kaznu na 60F po osobi. Platili kaznu.
