    Do not jaywalk in Lyon

by tomerik Updated Mar 27, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For a first time visitor to Lyon it is important to know that most one-way streets have a separate lane for buses and taxis that comes in the OPPOSITE direction of other cars.
It means that while you're looking to the right for traffic to stop in a one-way street, buses and taxis would come from the left (most likely in 60 km/h).
Lot's of people I know, including myself, have been centimeters from an accident not having paid attention to this in the beginning. So remember always look left and right before passing.

    When going during summertime...

We visited during summertime, and it was HOT HOT HOT.... As a person that is not very happy in the heat, I thought I was going to die, it was very very hot, so I would suggest taking a hat and some suncream, as it gets really very hot there.
If you plan on renting a car and driving around, I would advise you to get one with an airconditioner, its quite important, or you may just melt. :)

    TGV Duplex: never again!

by OrlandoBR Written Mar 5, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Paris-Lyon route uses the 2-level high-speed train, the TGV Duplex. The train shakes like mad if you get a seat on the upper floor, which will certainly give you a bad headache, and by the time you get to Lyon you'll be considering flying back to Paris... if you cannot stand the ferries to the Greek islands, keep away from this!

    Avoid too much wine

So this is what too much of that great French wine does. Every town in France has an Irish Pub, a rue Victor Hugo, a place de la Republique and an Eglise Notre-Dame, and a very pretty Hotel De Ville, or town-hall. The town-hall in Lyon was no exception and this is what it looks like after a bottle of cheap vin-du-table.

Svercalo se nas cca.15 ljudi u busu na stadion gdje je Hrvatska nogometna reprezentacija na Svjetskom prvenstvu pobijedila Njemacku 3:0. Razgledali stadion. Vracali se natrag istim busom. Sofer zvao mobitelom 'bakule' (kontrolore),a mi to nismo vidjeli. Platili kaznu.

P.S. Redovno kupljena karta za bus kostala 8 franaka.

    Common sense

Just use common sense. I recommend wearing a neck wallet so you can get to your money and papers and the thieves will have a terrible time getting at it.
