Val-d'Isère Things to Do

  • "You Must Take The Funicular!"

I know I am an American; however, we have no funicular's in America. This is a wonderful experience, and if you travel her you must try this. Basically you enter a train that travels upward at a high rate of speed through the tunnel in the mountain and heads to the top.A word of warning though; after I visited the tfunicular the train stopped in...

  • Grande Marnier Bar

After a days Sking and almost Ski to the door you can get yourself a Grande Marnier Hot Chocolate and a stool/chair to purch on.It does not sound much but after a day on the slopes it is Heaven, or I hope heaven is better because it is very good. Not sure on price, you will not care. They do pancakes with Grande Marnier in to.

  • The way down the Col de l'Iseran

The way down, like a lot of descents from mountain passes is extremely scenic and mind blowing... Make sure you stop often and take pictures...

  • The view at 2770 m

On top of Col de l'Iseran, not too much, no Mc Donald or anything that kind. Just lots of mountains and a sign saying that I have just climbed for 50 km from Bourg St-Maurice.

  • Leaving Val d'Isere for the climb of...

You will have open views over the mountains, the last few houses from Val d'Isere and all the glaciers you want... It is very pretty and well worth the detour...

  • Close to Val D'Isere

The reservoir offers great photo opportunity to contrast with the mountains and hanging glaciers. Worth a visit.

I heard that this place is awesome. We only ever drank there but the interior is decorated in a himalayan theme & has a great ambience. You can book a soak in the hot tub & they provide the shorts, T-shirt & towell so you don't have to carry yours around skiing!

In europe they drink often. Stopping for a break from skiing usually involves a "vin chaud" which usually leads to another & then no more skiing....hey, you're on holiday!
We were stopping for a vin chaud at the Folie Douce & ended up in an impromptu dance party - hair salon ?? Yes, that T-shirt does say " F*** Bush "

When you plan on going up the mountain passes of the Alps, make sure you know if the road is open! If you are travelling at the end of May or early June, the pass might be closed from the winter. Also make sure that you are ready for snow and foul weather. In this case, I think I climbed the moutain on the Wednesday and the pass just opened for the season on the Monday. Just pure luck.

    Snowboarding! Says it all really!!!!!

Equipment: It's so cliched, but it's excellent for experts and beginners, who just wanna learn. I spent time teaching skiiers the true art form on the snow and found that it was good for those wanting to learn. Problem is the snow ain't the best at the end of the season, I've been in March and the snow cannons were everywhere!!! But the nightlife on the other hand .....

Favorite thing: After making it to the bottom, sit back with a nice glass of French wine and let the sun fill you with warmth!
