Going down the mountain is the reward for all the work from the climbing... In the French Alps, sometimes you can go down for 70 km at a time!!! Very cool.

It's a long way down, from the Col du Galibier, all the way down to Chantemerle which was my camping spot for the night. Fore an hour, you wind through hairpin turns, brakes on hands and hoping hte bike cooperate and the traffic sees you. In the same time you want to watch the sceneries and maybe even take a picture or 2...

MAde popular by the tour de FRance, the Col du Galibier is a tough one to clib up by bike. The last 2 km is at 10% just when your legs told you they had enough, you have to produce that extra energy to haul the bike, the camping gear and you up the mountain... But the minute you catch up your breath and have a look at the view, everything is forgotten and you can't wait to do it again!!!

You leave the little town of St-Michel-de-Maurienne and right away you start climbing until you reach le Col du Telegraphe. In itself it is not a destination. Once you have reach the pass, you will go down 300-400 m to Valloire, an alpine village, then if you have legs left, you climb up the infamous Col du Galibier to 2645m. Priceless...
Equipment: A bike, a pair of legs, a good heart and set of lungs and lots of determination...

Favorite thing: Make sure you bring enough food, warm clothes and lots of water when you start climbing the mountains...
Fondest memory: Making it to the top of the mountain, with the bike that had 65 los of gear on it and talking with a cyclist that had a very light bike, and that admitted that the climb was too tough for him so he was given a ride to the top!!!
