Chabert & Guillot factory shop: Nougat at the best prices

by Yianna225

This is the outlet store for the most delish nougat in Montelimar! The prices are great (March 2010 - Euro 0.99 to 1.59 a kilo) and you can make your own selection of flavours and wrappings. In Montelimar, definitely nougat and pottery. Also try the lavender products and a local sweet, unique to the area, calisson (a kind of marzipan variety). Euro 0.99 to 1.59 a kilo (that's about 2.2lbs)

Gien pottery: Gien pottery

by ATLC

It seems that pottery from Gien is quite famous. At least in The Netherlands because this outlet store (in the town Gien) was awash with my fellow countrymen. Nice stuff, not cheap.Gien is a town on the Yonne river between Loire and Bourgogne. Near the A77 going towards (or off) the A6 between Paris and Auxerre. You can google for Gien dinnerware and find websites where you can order online. Quite a bit. A large plate would set you back about € 40-60 in the outlet shop in the town Gien itself.

Monoprix: Need supplies quickly?

by Beausoleil

Monoprix is all over France and when you simply want to get a list of things quickly and inexpensively, it's a great store. You could compare it to Target stores in the USA.We often rent a small house or apartment for a week to a month and they are usually Sat. to Sat. rentals. This means we arrive late Saturday afternoon, need supplies and stores are guaranteed to be closed Sunday. Ergo, we head for the nearest Monoprix. It was also useful when my husband absentmindly put toothpaste, shampoo and shaving cream in his carryon and had them all confiscated by airport security. Monoprix (in Nice) took care of him.Forget your alarm clock? Pick one up at Monoprix. It is a department store that includes nearly everything. Need towels? Need milk? Need a light jacket? Need chocolate . . . well, perhaps not need it! Monoprix is your store. You can get paper to write home, cheese for dinner, extra...

Anywhere: Pas bon marche

by acommon1

You choose. Try giving some love to the small boutiques. They work hard for the money. Beaux vetements.Fathers, what a place to purchase your daughters and spouse something nice. Trop cher. Don't expect any eye popping deals thought. Suck it up. Open that wallet. Purchases your honey(s) something. If you have sons then wait until you get to the countryside or another country. Toute est trop cher!

flower market: cours de saleya

by kat-m

This market is huge and as well as the fantastic flowers there are stalls selling fruit ,veg, herbs and all kinds of local produce. Teresas famous socca stall is worth a visit to try the local fare, although we were not to impressed by it, it seems very popular. It is a kind of pancake made with chickpea flour I found it very bland. We bought some amazing bread from the market which was like a large flavoured flat bread, this was very tasty and went down nicely with a salad. Souveniers can be bought as well as the lovely herbs de provence, a nice morning out. If self catering lots of nice fruit , veg and breads. a lot

Fragonard: Perfumery in Grasse - Cote De azur, France

by gauravm03

Did you know how perfumes are madeDo you what a person who makes perfumes is calledWhat is the difference between rose water and essenceGet these answers and more when you do a tour of perfumaries in Grasse. This is a small town near Cannes and is famous for you guessed it Perfumes. Most perfumaries provide a guided tour of their facilityWe went to Fragonard because it seemed a big one and it was a good choice. They had simultaneously running tours in French and English language. Me and my wife were the only 2 who took the English tour so we got a lot of personal attention. Our guide was very helpful and pretty knowledgeable too. She spent atleast 30-45 mins with us and finally ended the tour with a perfume smelling session of their latest perfumes, helping us to identify different notes in each perfume and leading to its essence ingredients.I found the perfumes resonable priced. 100 ml...

Toulon and Nice: Provencial markets

by gauravm03

We went to couple of provencial markets during our trip to Cote de Azur. One was the market in Nice. Its very well organized, runs a fresh flower, vegetables and fruit market in the morning till about noon and then parts of it turn into a trinklet/souvenier market with a lot of space left for restuarants to extend on to the street. We found the flower and fruit market very interesting. One big pro if you are not staying in Nice, there is a big parking lot below the market. Although its a bit expensive than markets in smaller towns it is definitely worth visiting if only due to the whole atmosphere. The other market we visited was in Toulon, the city we were staying in. The market runs every morning till about noon in the old center. You get lot of local shoppers doing their daily shopping. Fresh produce is a lot cheaper and abundant if you go early around 8 AM. You will find cafes open at...
