Anywhere: Provence fabrics

by Maline

When in Provence, opt for the fabrics with typical provence patterns, consisting of small flowers, in warm colors mostly. There are also other patterns than flowers. See the picture for some samples. This makes beautiful table cloths and curtains to give your home a "provence touch" back home..! Depends on where you go, in department stores perhaps more than in the markets, but of course it also varies with the quality of the fabric.

Visit the markets

by Maline

In the many street markets you can buy fabrics (see earlier tip) or why not local ceramics? Yellow especially seems to be a popular color, but I got some beautiful rustic cups in Provence, quite cheap.

Wine Shopping in the Perigord

by Canadienne

This area of France, in and around Bordeaux, is known as one of the world's best wine-producing regions. Although you will find loads of places to buy wine along the Dordogne's little villages, St. Emilion is packed with them. In fact, it seems to exist for little reason other than its row upon row of wine shops. . .So, if you're in the market, this is an excellent place to go.

Au Printemps: The Mothership of Shopping Fans!

by DueSer

Calling Au Printemps a department store seems rather silly. Located on Boulevard Haussman, this huge store is comprised of three buildings connected by walkways - Mode (women's clothing and accessories), Maison (home store), and a men's shop.Au Printemps has everything you could think of - a souvenir beret, a wide selection of top name purses, shoes, and clothing, and a fabulous home store featuring Lalique. There is even a cart set up selling "macrons", tiny little pastry delights that come in different flavors and are not to be missed. If you want to do some serious shopping, or get to see a real slice of Parisian life, or both, don't miss Au Printemps. Lalique has some beautiful glass items. Besides the shop in Au Printemps there is one in the gallerie de Louvre and a shop on rue Royale. Also get a beret if they fit - they seem to come in one size fits all.Great purse and shoe...

WHY: useless stuff - nontheless funny

by DanielleT

If you are looking for a funny gift or for something special for your apartment then you are right there. You can buy everything from lamps to shower curtains to tooth paste. Most of the stuff you can buy at WHY is more or less useless but it makes fun and that is in my eyes the main point. It depends on what you want. You can spend from about EUR 5 to whatever.

Champ Elysses

by traps

A long stretch of shopping district!! A shopping haven for shoppers! You get major brands like Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton and they are apparently cheaper than the ones here in Singapore. (D’oh!) there are a variety of shops selling various items. Souvenirs, electrical goods, beauty and make up stores, clothes..clothes and more!! It really felt like heaven to me. A few hours is definitely insufficient for me. And do visit the music store- VIRGIN. It is triple stories. ( I think…cant recall)..but I could remember there were loads of music cds to choose from and the setting was good! And it is a HUGE store. The price of a cd is kind of reasonable. Ranges from USD14 onwards. Depends on the import. Souvenirs, clothes, crepes.

caves and vinyards all over France: fancy wines!

by Fleur_D

Yummmm! Go on a wine tour .... or three. I could only manage/afford one, around the Bordeaux area. Well worth it, even if you don't usually 'do' touristy stuff. Wine! Red or white - go by the taste and the recommendations of the conneissuers...buying at supermarche usually works out cool too... the sky's the limit - but nice stuff need not be too overpriced if you choose carefully or buy from the vinyards

Fresh market

by nicole8

I found fresh vegetables and fruits in Europe, as just cut from plants.. but you'd better go to fresh market to buy it, it's so cheap, 1.5 euro for 1 kg of strawberry.. its not expensive if you cook by your own in Europe, you can find all materials for spaghetti in supermarket... baked chicken is something I highly recommend, very delicious !
