Col de l"Iseran, 2770 km by bicycle_girl Cycling the French Alps is a must do if you love biking. Be sure to have an array of gears on your bike including a small chainring for climbing and also a good granny gear! You will also need good breaks as sometimes you will go down for 50 km at a time!!! French people are really in love with cyclists (thanks to the Tour de France) so don't be surprised if they ask you if you are in the Tour the France this year!!!
My chaining is 52-42-26 in the front and 11-32 in the back. With that I can challenge myself with most hills even with 65 pounds of gear on the bike. Make sure you bring a good pair of gloves and warm clothes for the descent. Leave a Comment Theme: Biking

by Hopkid We signed on with Sporting Tours for our TdF holiday in 2004. We chose the week-long Quality level tour that followed the Tour during the Alpine stages and up to the finish in Paris. We were pleased with the organization, the lodging faclities, guidance on daily rides, the coach (especially our driver), and the strategic arrangements to get us each day to where we could view the stage. There was one minor blow-up among those who did not bring bikes when on the day of Stage 17, the non-riders were dropped off in Tailloires and were told that they would not be able to view the stage unless they were willing to walk 10-15 km. That did not go over well. However after talking to some folks in the town, it turned out that the race route was going right past the north side of the town and they only had to walk a couple of kilometers. Our guide and driver were great at getting us as close to the stage viewing locations while also planning for a quick escape afterwards which is no small feat on small French roads when hundreds of thousands of fans are trying to do the same. The food was excellent each night for dinner and breakfasts were also adequate. I whould highly recommend Sporting Tours, not only due to their organization but they are also one of the least expensive of such tour operators out there.
If you are a cyclist, DO NOT decide to leave your bike at home. I guarantee you will regret it but good. Bring sunscreen, a hat, rain gear, and a rucksack for camera, drinks, snacks. Leave a Comment

Me and Benjamin playing Pool by dr.firas It was a lovely Sunday, Benjamin told me after a good lunch, heavy one with good meat, somone, and wine that we should go do sport! I told him I adore pool, and he said: don't you know we have the biggest pool hall in Tours in all France, and I goes: Wow! What are we waiting for, lets go, I play good, but I lost the party, as Benjamin is a real Professional in pool, the main thing we had fun, and for keeping the memory, we took that funny picture as if we were both aiming to shot in the same time LOL Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: ToursDirections: France

The Tour de France is a famous cycle race held annually in France every summer. I've followed the race ever since Stephen Roche became the first Irish winner back in 1987. In recent years the race has been dominated by the American cyclist Lance Armstrong and it has also become quite controversial following the suspension of Floyd Landis, the 2006 winner, on drugs charges. The Tour is one of cycling's most gruelling events and much of the race takes place in the mountains. Leave a Comment Theme: Biking

France hosted the world cup in '98 and I was lucky enough to be working there at the time. The atmosphere was incredible, especially the night when France beat Brazil 3-0 in the final. All through the month there was lots going on and I've so many fond memories of that summer including a Scottish bagpipe concert in our pub, England losing to Argentina on penalties and the night of the final when France took the cup and I had to work until 5am! France national sport is obviously football (soccer for US people). Since we won the world cup in 1998 we sometimes believe we are still the world champion, even if it is not... Anyway, French premier league is one of the best in Europe (Italian, Spanish and English are better though), and we have great players in France. Among them Thierry Henry, Trezeguet, Zidane, Lizarazu, Makelele... If you are fond of sport, going to see a championship game might be a fun experience. Second national sport is rugby. Still, it is the most popular sport in South West of France, where you will find nearly half teams who play in the Top 14 league. This sport is becoming more and more popular and many people tend to actually find this sport much more interesting than football (main reason being that they dont want to be part of the mass popularity of football). Once again, watching a 6 nations game is a thrilling experience. Other main sports in France are tennis (we sometimes win the Davis Cup), judo, fencing, handball, volleyball, skiing, horseriding... I still don't understand it! No one could translate it into English well enough for me to understand (my French sucks!). The best translation I got was 'bull swimming pool'. Go figure. Anybody know what it means and how it works - please email me at VT...

You may have seen it on TV or in a French movie and did not understand the rules or you may actually have never heard of it. La pétanque is often considered as a "sport" of South of France, though it is played in the whole country. It is a sport played in 2 teams of 3-4-5 people (not a definite number when you play with your friends, and I dont know what is the professional definite number of players). Each person has 2 balls. One person throws the "cochonnet", a smaller wood or plastic ball. Then, the goal is to be the nearest of the "cochonnet" by throwing your other balls. Easy rules. La pétanque is mainly played by middle age and older people. It is a "convivial" game, where people enjoy being together. There are very few professional players. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
