The landscape of the vosges is a very rural area. You have lots of space for long hikes in a natural mid-mountain-area. Big rocks of sandstone, dark caves and lots of trees, the right playground for a perfect weekend-hiking-trip with good friends. Do not forget to buy the 'vine rouge'.
Chateau country or the Loire Valley. These castles are extraordinary. The most beautiful, I think, is Chenonceau. It was given to Dianne du Poitier by King Henry but when he died his widow Catherine de Medicis kicked her out.This unique chateau spans a river. The walk across is the most beautiful salon. The sunlight coming through the windows. Looking down on the river.The gardens on either side of the chateau entrance. It is all totally gorgeous. A lovely way to spend an afternoon.

If you are in Alsace and are male (all men stay boys, deep inside!) you must come to Mulhouse and visit the Car museum (Musee de l'auto.) and the Railway museum (Musee du chemin de fer). All people who have visited the car museum, agree that it is the biggest and most amazing car collection they ever saw or hear about, worldwide! Then, you got also the Firemen museum (musee des pompiers), the printed textile museum, the wall paper museum and all the classic ones that nearly every city has!

In Paris, do all the tourist things: The Eiffel Tour, the Arc de Triompe, the Lourve, Notre Dame, Hotel Invalides (Napolean's grave) and all the churches. We had four days and didn't have time to see everything.
You must see the Croissette, Palm Beach, the Palais du Festival, the Vieux Cannes, the Suquet and the old port.The ils de Lerin and take a short trip on a boat (50 francs a trip).Ths scenery is just beautiful. The colors are great.
Find a spot that you can see the Eiffel Tower. At night they turn on the sparkling lights on the hour for about 10 minutes. Kind of makes you feel like it is New Year's all over again (just without all the fireworks).
One place to visit in Avignon, is the 'Palais des Papes', this is where the Popes, resided in France during the 14th Century. King Philippe Le Bel, convinced a French pope, Clement V, to move to Avignon, and He did. Seven other popes ruled from here for almost a hundred years.This is a massive structure, the Gothic palace sheer size, its so impressive, some towers measuring up to 150 feet high.
