If you're in the French Alps...

by SueDavison

If you're in the French Alps and close to Chamonix, it's worth taking the Aguille du Midi cable car. It's the closest you'll get to the summit of Mont Blanc without an ice axe and crampons and the views are fantastic.

by ejroberts

The gondola ride to the top of the Aiguille Du Midi and across to Pointe Helbronner in Italy. This was the single most spectacular thing that we did in 3 months traveling in Europe. The cable car to the top of the Aiguilee Du Midi is very steep and quite frightening. We climbed straight up, a few feet from the mountain. I was so frightened that I could not open my eyes near the top, where it was the steepest. The cable car ride across the glacier was even more spectacular. You get in a small cable car that holds 4 people and hang from the wire for 20 minutes across the white expanse of ice and snow. Sometimes you stop and sit for 1-2 minutes hanging, surrounded by mountains, above the glacier glistening white below. You can look deep into fizzures and deep ccrevasses and see small groups of people, like ants, slowly crossing the glacier far below. I have never been to a more beautiful...

by jambon

Visit the small towns of France. The people are delightful and very hospitable. One that I would recommend is Nogent-le-Rotrou, located between Chartres and LeMans.A beautiful medieval château is located on a butte right in the middle of town. It dates from the days of William the Conqueror and also houses the Musée du Perche, the name of the local area. Also on every Saturday, the local square is filled with activity when the Marché (the market) is operating. Fascinating!

by tarim

St. Malo, a city north of the presqu-ile Bretagne - the tides are very high here and there's a powerstation using the tide's height difference (18 meters!)... The city itself is surrounded by walls (you can walk on) and you get very good fish soup and moules (mussels). The incoming tides are so forceful that you still get weg sitting 10 meters above on theouter wall to the shore and the water actually splashes far over it and onto the road behind.

by Star_Dust

If you're going to visit France, you MUST go see Mont St Michel. If you love architecture and history.....When you do go, dress warmly. It was very windy there. It's an Abbey, constructed on an artificial island....the story says that one day, the Arch Angel Michael came to a Benedictine monk in a dream, and told him to build this abbey. So the priest did, and the construction lasted from the year 1000 until the 16th century. There is a low tide during the daytime, and a high tide during the evening. That means that when you are visiting during the day, you can only see sand all around. Absolutely beautiful!
