Blois

by Pieter11

The Royal city of Blois is situated wonderfully on the banks of the Loire river, in Central France. It´s built on two hills, of which one is very special. On top of this hill the Royal Palace of Blois is built. The Royal Palace of Blois is a true masterpiece among the castles at the Loire banks. It´s built in 4 different centuries and therefore has 4 totally different pieces. Especially the piece built by Francois I, with the famous and beautiful stairs, is really interesting. But the nicest thing is to see the differences between the styles thoughout the years. In the months in the summer, there also is a light- and soundshow inside the castle. This spectacle is really worth a visit, although everything is told in French and is hard to understand. But the sights are worth it.Coming out of the castle you should walk the Royal route through the city centre. It is a marked route and shows...

Omaha Beach

by Maximilian21

Its a humbling experience to walk on the shores of Omaha, the site of where many young men lost there lives. I think that for me the experiences like that are important because its all about what you take away from it. I guess that if you dont come away from Normandy thinking about how stupid and evil war is then perhaps you should check you pulse because the cries of these fallen innocents is screaming out at you. The main "attraction" is the not the beach because theres nothing much to luck at really. The main reason people come is the history and the Allied memorial right next to the beach. Its absolutely immense (although with less graves than the german) and can only be described as beautiful.

Chateau de Chenonceaux

by Maximilian21

Chenonceaux, a romantic pleasure palace, was created from the Renaissance onward by a series of aristocratic women. The château stretches across the Cher river with a 60 meter gallery built over a series of arches. Its elegant beauty continues on the inside with its splendidly furnished rooms, bedchambers, fine paintings and tapestries. Chenonceaux is my favorite of all the french calstles in the loire valley, and probabaly all of France. I find it really elegant and its architecture, built over the river is really something special.

Chateau de Chambord

by Maximilian21

The Chateau of Chambord in one of the loveliest Renaissance buildings in the Valley of the Loire. Chambord, château, park, and village in the department of Loire-et-Cher in central France. The château of Chambord was a retreat for French kings, especially Louis XIV . The structure, contains 440 rooms, 365 fireplace, 13 great staircases, and stables. I love Chambord because of its immense size. Unfortuntely the last time i went i couldnt appreciate it more because it was so cold. Everything can become a bit dull in these circumstances.

Toulouse is a city of 600 000 inhabitants located in the South of France, capital of the Midi-Pyrénées region. It is located on the banks of the Garonne, close to the Pyrénées and halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a placed enriched in culture and always being at the forefront of music in France. On top of this is has become a place popular for its sport especially its Rugby. I have only been here a few times but each time i have found it preety and peacefull larger city.

Marseille

by Maximilian21

I know its my personal opinion but i htink marseille is the city withthe most heart and soul and passion in France. Marseille (Latin: Massilia) is the third biggest city of France and the economic center of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Its a costal town and its economy is largely dominated by the Port and the fishing and boating industry. watching fishermen selling their stock by auction is a must. There is a large Migrant community in Marseille, many from north Africa. Many people would tell you that there is a larger crime rate in Marseille. These facts are true but you would probabaly not find a more honest bunch of people than in Marseille. There football team has almost become a metaphor for the town itself. It has highs and low's, victory and defeats, corruption and honesty. But one thing that never changes are "Les Marseillais " who are always there, passionate as ever...

Say Gday to Mr Nasseri

by Maximilian21

For those of you who may or may not know a man has lived in Charles de Gaulle Airport since 1988. His name is Merhan Karimi Nasseri and he is an Iranina refugee. He is the inspiration behind the terrible hollywood movie called "the terminal starring Tom Hanks". Unlike Tom Hanks' character in the movie, Nasseri does not live in the duty-free transit area, but simply in the departure hall, in the circular boutiques and restaurants passage on the lowest floor. He does not seem to speak with anyone normally; with his cart and bags he almost looks like a traveler, so people either do not notice him or ignore him as if he were a homeless person. Go up and say gday and give him your best wishes. Thats what i do anyway

Tour de France

by dcholly

Going to the Tour de France was a great experience. You get to see some of the top athletes in the world, you get exercise (by hiking to the top of the mountains), you meet all types of people from all over and you see the sights of the part of France you travel to. I saw the Alps & Paris stages of the 2004 Tour and got to see some of the most beautiful mountain vistas and a beautiful city.

Carnac

by Pieter11

This place in the South of Bretagne, Western France, is the centre of French prehistorical culture. A lot of megalithical sites are found here, covered by mystery. In Carnac itself there is a major Menhir site, stone are put up here by thousends! The Menes alignment has 1099 stones, the Kermario has 1029 of them and the Kerlescan alignment shows 555 erected menhirs. There also are some tombes, that are thousends of years old. Here people are buried individually or as a group. It´s really impressive to see these very old sights. And it´s even more interestic to think and fantasize about the meaning of these stones. But if you are around here, you shouldn´t miss it!At the added internet-site you can find even more megalithical sites in the neighbourhood of Carnac!
