by Paul2001

The restaurants in the Latin Quarter are highly overrated. If you hanging out in this part of Paris at around mealtime then it is best to head for some of the restaurants closer to the Sonbornne which are less touristy and cater more to the locals.

by Willem_Cahin

Between July 1, 2001 and 1 January, 2002 all prices in France will be posted both in French Francs and EURO's. Be very carefull when you pay with credit card that the rigth currency (= Francs) has been put on the bill ('diction') or that you fill in 'FF' yourself. Otherwise youare bound to pay SIX TIMES the amount you expected and it is almost impossible to recover your money!!!!

Well the Louvre is touristy...

by Kindra

Well the Louvre is touristy but is well worth it and not exactly a trap. Do check out things other than the sadly overrated Mona Lisa- it is beautiful and has a history but is guarded behind bullet proof glass and if the glass doesnt ensure a bad picture (reflections), the many people crowded around it will.

by peteyjim

We caught a train to Bordeaux from Nice. What should've been a simple 10hr journey took over 22hours. Hell. Bordeaux wasn't much in the end. I wanted to go to the Perigord Region and see all the prehistoric caves, but our plans all died around us. We went on a Winery tour to St Emillion. Pretty boring tour, but the village is beautiful and the wine is LUSH!

Going in the middle of summer. Winter is the most stunning time in Paris. The alleyways have atmosphere and the buildings look stunning in the grey light. Black and white photography was invented to capture the spirit of Paris, I'm sure.

by jessicadf

Don't bother eating in the pricey, want-to-be-upscale restaurant in La Tour Eiffel. The picture at the top of this page was taken one evening, when our friend, Alice, insisted we eat there. The food was the *worst* of our one month trip. The only blessing was that the service was slow, so we had a beautiful sunset view for a long, long time.

Rocamadour (spelling?). ...

by lois_lane

Rocamadour (spelling?). Though it is a tourist trap,,it is an impressive one. This amazing structure is here because some crazy monk years ago heard voices telling him to build a monestary up the side of an impossibly steep cliff...in those days people listened to voices instead of taking anti-psychotics. Lucky for us, France is left with several amazing structures due to mysterious 'voices'

by Nomad_2001

Don't waste money on all the SOUVENIRS!!! Souvenirs are sold everywhere, but spend your money on some great new fashions or enjoy some great food rather than spend it on bunches of souvenirs. I try NOT to buy more than 1 souvenir per country per visit.

by Beefy_SAFC

It's possible to haggle with the street artists to buy their paintings, but you'll be lucky to get them down far in price. Try to pay what you think it's worth and not necessarily go for the lowest price. Some of these people don't earn that great a living.Beefy at http://www.geocities.com/beefnetuk
