HORRORS AND PITFALLS OF CARRENTAL IN FRANCE(specifically from EUROPCAR at Paris Airports)When I landed at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport on April 19/2000, I headedstraight for the EUROPCAR rental office. I had made arrangements severalmonths before for a 3-week car rental. At that moment I had no inkling that theworst car rental experience of my life was waiting for me. This experience is bestdescribed by recalling various episodes that began and ended in Paris.EPISODE 1. The two young ladies at the counter looked up my name on the computer andseveral minutes later handed me a document and the key to a compact car. Theytold me to take the elevator up to the parking area, find my car and bon voyage. Iwas not given a) any map of the Paris area, b) nor any help in locating the car, c)nor any instructions regarding operation of the car, d) nor was I told that the carhad a diesel engine...

Pay phones can be a real...

by dj77

Pay phones can be a real hassle. There only seem to be a few pay phones left in the city that accept coins, and all the rest require pre-paid calling cards. The problem with this was that the least expensive calling card was in fact very expensive and not worth the money considering we only needed to make a couple calls. So beware of this.

by JVENUTO

If you are carrying cash to France, do not bring $100. bills. You can only cash them in the bureau de changes & they are few & far between. NO banks will cash them, not even the Bank of France! This is a rediculous policy that was a real inconvenience the last time I was there. What really gauls me is that this is not mentioned in any of the travel info.

First of all,I want to say that I adore France and Icould bear everything there,but...beware of going in Bretagne during August time without having booked any accomodation!Every little hole is 'au complet',so the only solution is the hotel 1000 stars... Years ago I went to the Mont Saint-Michel,the most beatiful and charming paeninsula I had ever seen ,without any program. It was August and with my great surprise I realised that the hole region there was pulsing with an incredible multitude of people from everywhere. No chance to find a place to stay for the night.Just for the records,I made 35 calls to hotels, motels,b&b,guest rooms, pension and whatever offered a bed. Finally, after two and a half hours of frenetic search, when I was already in complete deperation ,a good French farmer shared my 'pain' and offered me a place inhis barn. What a relief ! The next day I had the most luxurious...

by Jackie_Bryan

The place that we had the most trouble was in Euro Disney. We found that the people were very rude to us. When we were there we got into a couple of fist-fights with the people there because we all had Canadian flags on our bags, and also because they cut in front of us for the line-ups for the rides. We also found the workers there were rude to us because we tried to speak French to them but they didn't understand us, then we tried to speak English to them, and they gave us dirty looks.

by susie_fr

In Bonifacio, be careful if you have the bright idea like I did to swim around this humungus rock. If you get too close and get pushed into it by the tide or wave created by a passing boat, you may get wounded by the many very sharp bits hiding under the water. But it's beautiful isn't it......

by sponton

While in Paris, if getting off the Metro stop at La Defense (the big square monument on the outskirts of Paris), be wary that many gangs are in the area at night and also many gypsy types live here and many beggars and pickpockets taking advantage of the shoppers at the big 'mall' here. One young man tried to corner me in a phone booth here.
