Overzealous police

by Maximilian21

I have found the police a bit overzealous in France. Dont get me wrong, im not anti police or anything, in fact my best friend is a police officer. The thing is i dont like to be hastled for no particular reason or being asked for me papers when im am simply standing in the road. The French police do have a bit of a reputation of being a little heavy handed

Dog Poo

by Maximilian21

Your in Paris with the person you love. Your just about to lean in and kiss them tenderly in the place du trocadero overlooking the Eiffel tower. Suddenly you look down and realise you just stepped in a big peice of dog poo. Unfortunetely this is an all to real occurance as i always find their to be an abundance of dog crap on the streets of Paris. On the streets of any major French city for that matter. It does seem to diminish the romance aspect

Comercial fox!

by dr.firas

Be careful from Arabic comercials!!!they are everywhere the same!they are very polite with clients, and they could dance to you, laugh to you, be extra gentle to you, and also to cerve their backs for you if it needs *A votre service madam!*Argh!!!!How Hypocrite a person can be if it needs, when needed for good trade and money! Thanks God I'm out of this, never needed it and could never agree to be a part of it!I am a Dentist after all ;-p

Too much honesty

by dr.firas

Yes yes I know, some times I hate myself, as I'm really too honest at work, the prove, look what happened to my lovely poor sport shoe!sniff sniff what a big hole!no wonder, after 2,5 tones of work!

Hidden Activities

by dr.firas

This is a serious warning, there are some hidden gorgeous activities and wonderful monuments in a small back streets, Paris is a big city and full of activities, try not to miss those wonderful parts of monuments with your open eyes, also a map in your hand with details of the city is very needed!

Tip Photo
Le Composteur

by dr.firas

Be really careful to forget to *composter* your train ticket befor you get to it, in France the rules are strict, if you will not do this silly procedure which takes almost a second, you'll have to pay a big tax in the train when the controler is coming to check your tickets, if you really forgot, the best thing to do is just to inform the controler before he comes to reach your sit and check your ticket!

WATER - "Should I Drink It ??"

by Lady_Mystique

One always hears about never drinking the water (tap water, to be specific) in a foreign country. I drink bottled water almost exclusively when visiting any place not close to home. I usually drink bottled or filtered water at home too. I don't go as far as brushing my teeth with bottled water, but I absolutely will not drink tap water (au robinet) in any restaurants. The French themselves consume large quantities of bottled water (as in Perrier, Evian, Volvic...my personal favourites) -- both avec (with) and sans (without) gas (carbonated) -- and it may be a good practice for you too if you are worried about any digestive aspects of your health.Plain yogurt (and yogurt pills) are good aids in helping to prevent traveler's diarrhea. Also, before you take a drink from one of the pretty fountains, look first for a posted sign stating "l'eau non potable" (unpotable water).APPENDUM:"Tap water...

Dust

by Arm-Chair-Hero

If you decide to go on this type of holiday it is well worth a mention about dust. A lot of these tracks are quite heavey with dust and what ever you are wearing will get covered in it....this applies even at low speeds. If you havent got air con be prepared to get roasted and dirty.

IF You Get SICK...

by Lady_Mystique

If you are sick but it is not emergency I would suggest that you try and see a general practitioner (generalist). With general practitioners you don't always need an appointment to see one, and most will speak some English. A Generalist will see patients on a first come first serve basis during business hours. The cost to see a generalist is 20 euros, regardless of nationality. To see a doctor during non-business hours or on weekends, you need to find the doctor on call (médecin de garde) in the area you are in. You can either call, or have someone call for you, the SAMU (French emergency health services). Dial 15 and wait for an operator.... or... a local paper should have a list with the médecin de garde and the on-call pharmacy (pharmacie de garde) in your area. After seeing the doctor, you will need to go to the on-call pharmacy to get your prescription filled. In the countryside both...
