CREDIT CARDS

by Lady_Mystique

VISA (Carte Bleue) is the most widely accepted credit card, followed by MasterCard (Access or Eurocard).AmEx cards are not very useful except at particularly upmarket establishments, but they do allow you to get cash at certain ATMs.Taking along two different credit cards (stashed in different wallets) is safer than taking one, as it may be impssible to replace a lost Visa or MasterCard until you get home.(AmEx and Diners Club International offer on-the-spot replacement.)

WOMEN TRAVELERS - "Alone...or not??"

by Lady_Mystique

Whether traveling alone or not I would advise women to do some reading beforehand. The following books are recommended:1. "Traveler's Tales Gutsy Women: Travel Tips and Wisdom for the Road" by Marybeth Bond; O'Reilly & Associates, 1996 --- A packable little book filled with many useful tips for women of all ages. Bond has traveled all over the world, much of it alone. She shares her advice and those of other female travelers.2. "Women Travel: First Hand Accounts From More Than 60 Countries" by Jansz, Davies, Drew, & McDougall --- "A Rough Guide Special"3. "Traveling Solo" by Eleanor Berman4. "A Foxy Old Woman's Guide to Traveling Alone" by Jay Ben-Lesser5. "Travel Alone & Love It: A Flight Attendant's Guide to Solo Travel" by Sharon Wingler**********************************************************ALSO, here are a few web-sites that may be useful:1. http://www.women-traveling.com2....

COPIES...COPIES...and MORE COPIES

by Lady_Mystique

All important documents (passport data page and visa page, credit cards, travel insurance policy, air/bus/train tickets, driver's license, etc.) should be photocopied before you leave home.Leave one copy with someone at home and keep another with you, separate from the originals.

'STENDHAL SYNDROME' -"I can't take it anymore!"

by Lady_Mystique

This "condition" was named for the sick, physical feeling that afflicted French novelist Stendhal after he visited Santa Croce in Florence. This syndrome is the feeling of being completely overwhelmed by your surroundings...i.e. seeing and doing MUCH TOO MUCH!!!If you arrive in France with a long list of "must-sees" then you are a prime candidate for the syndrome. To avoid this it is best to organize your days, factoring in how long it takes to get from place to place, and seeing only what you, personally, really want to see. Don't feel guilty about missing a particular site or event...it is YOUR trip and there is no quiz at the end of it!

Altitude sickness

by Arm-Chair-Hero

We was warned of the possible dangers of altitude sickness...the highest we traveled in the Land Rovers was 10 000 feet none of us suffered from any of the symptoms but we was warned of possible sickness and head aches and to take it easy...we didnt need much convincing on that part.At this height the air does seam more crisp and can be a little cold but that was about it...I guess different people react in different ways....but it is worth bearing in mind.

Food and drinks

by dr.firas

As I said it is great to be in France again for this wonderful reason too, but some how a strager stomach could really not except the unusual rythym and way and methods of mixing the food, and you could have troubles later, for example, they go:Apero, Salade, or Soup, Main dish, Chees, dessert, not every one could handle this, especially if he is not used to, well I am getting used too, and getting to like it as well LOL

Rude Parisians

by everdawn57

I ve een to Paris once and i have a feeling that parisians are rude and unwelcome to tourists. Of course i ve met many intresting people there but the general impression is that they are rude and that theydon't answer in english thought theyspeak! It's even frustraing when i tried to speak in broken french the way they looked at me and kept answering in fluent french as i was a proffessor in sorbonne!

As in every large city, there...

by Goner

As in every large city, there is a danger of pickpockets. They are very creative. On the Metro in Paris two men lite a match and pretended a passenger's pant leg was on fire and patted him to put it out - of course they were trying to grab his wallet and bag, they didn't get it though, some American intervened!!! DON'T GIVE MONEY TO THE BEGGARS IN THE METRO STATION, they are not what they seem, they change from one pitiful cripple one day to a blind person the next - then the next day they have a sick baby!

It could be so cold

by dr.firas

Yeah, it could be a sunny lovely day, and few hours later the clouds will cover the sky, and it could rain, or you can have wild aggrssive wind and cold weather, so you have to be ready for any possible change!

Don't climb

by dr.firas

There are great rocks which could attracts you to have the courage to climb, unfortunately there were many sad stories of uncareful tourists who end their lives by faling from the rocks and crashed!so whatever, don't climb!
