how to save money for a trip

by rkearns

good point katie. europe isn't exactly "the beach" themed location the op is asking about. if i were you, i would travel to a place that is cheap to travel within. to save money on accommodations, try couchsurfing.com or stay at hostels. some hostels will let you stay for free if you work there. i would also go online and see some travel deals (not packages, just flights) then adjust where you want to go based on the cost of the flight. be flexible with your dates and you will get the best rates. priceline.com is a great way to save cash on the flight too. plan in advance, purchase the ticket, then spend 3-5 months saving money. cut down on things you don't need that you pay for such as take out and coffee. it's amazing how much that cuts into your budget. definitely a good idea, as stated above to sell some of your stuff. ebay, craigslist, yard sale, etc. hope that helps!

Overland travel

by sheherezad

London is a great gateway for overland travel to all of Europe/North Africa! Do check if your age group qualifies you for overland travel by companies like Contiki or Topdeck (and the likes of them)? The advantage is that you'll never be alone and (should) have great company! ;-)I travelled all of Scandinavia many years ago on Topdeck (and had a blast, despite the chunder chart!) and it was still alive at the last check, recently? ;-) Then there is Trek Europa (I did Trek America's 'Westerner' many years ago). Then there's Trailfinders etc etc and Eurailpass is another option? If you want to do it alone but meet people on the way?

Nowadays Ventspils is known fro well refurbished old part, cow sculptures left from International Cows' parade. Other town, Kuldiga, is known for long brick bridge though Venta and Venta's waterfall, longest in Europe. The region, as I heard, is very convenient for camping travel lovers.
