Trieste

by cheekymarieh

The following day we waved farewell to my friend Jera and headed over to Trieste. We spent the afternoon enjoying the magnificent sites of the city before catching an overnight train to Rome. They say all roads lead to Rome … well so do the trains!

Rome

by cheekymarieh

The following day was spent trying to see as much of Rome as possible of the city. My feet have never ached so much and that evening we could walk no further than the restaurant across the road. It happened to be a Chinese but there weren’t any Italian ones close by.The following morning we left our hotel and headed to catch a train to Brindisi (changing in Pescara en route). Unfortunately because our feet were in such a bad state we didn’t see much of Pescara. I actually saw a little more than my brother as I lost the toss to go and buy some food from a local supermarket. Kev didn’t go out of the station! In Brinidisi I managed to get a few drinks for the ferry!

Watch out for the doggie-doo-doo

by Packerman

When walking around Europe, watch out for doo-doo from any kind of animal. I know it is the law in many places in the U.S.A. to clean up your animals stuff, but not such the case in Europe, so beware. Never getting any on my shoe! Certainly not the sight of it all over the place.

Plan, plan, & plan more

by Packerman

If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. Our vacations to London, Paris, and Brussels could have been much better if I had planned as I did for the rest of our trips. I have heard from several people that planning is half the fun, and I would agree because anticipation is the same thing as hunger. Hunger makes the food taste better, and anticipation makes the vacation better also. When you plan well that makes your time more pleasant with less worries, less trouble, and less confusion, and maybe less problems. It makes the time you are in a certain city or area more effective and efficient, you can do MORE and see MORE, how wonderful.

Prague

by rickyvilla81

Prague is really cool; it is inexpensive, and has amazing beautiful buildings which sit above a river that evokes the middle ages. See the Prague page i've made for more pictures and info. Everyone says it, i know, but this place is beautiful, and so deadly cheap! One of my favourite European cities. Karluv Most at sunset is still quite breathtaking (especially if you're chasing after a pickpocket...)

London.

by rickyvilla81

Visit London. It's the biggest and perhaps most expensive European city, the nightlife is questionably uncheap and draconian drinking laws hamper any sense of enjoyment experienced in say, Brussels, the transport system ranks among the worst in pretty much any city, and the crowds of people ignoring you as you struggle across any central road will make you want to tear your hair out from day one...but it's the best city there is. I of course am from here, so I know whereof I speak. There is always something open somewhere nearby, and it's hard to get bored. You can get fed up, especially with the Northern Line, but you can never be overfed. Go to London, it's the greatest.

Budapest

by rickyvilla81

The Hungarian capital is a real surprise. It is a little like Prgue in form, but much bigger, and the architecture much grander. It can get hot here in the summer, but you can cool off in one of many open-air pools, like the ones on Margitsziged.

Wonderful people and so much to see!

by phildeni

There is no single activity that would do justice to travel in Europe. One must "do it all"..I think the most satisfying way to enjoy the countries of Europe is by renting a car and travelling the "back roads" to the smaller villages. I miss the many friends I have made on my trips there. I miss the adventure.

Go to Venice!

by rickyvilla81

Venice is certainly the most incredible place in Europe. After a while, all european cities start to feel the same, but Venice is totally different. There are no cars, or bicycles. The whole place is built on a lagoon, and canals abound. Everyone boats it, everywhere - it's the only way. Try to imagine if Oxford Street got flooded - that's Venice. But it is magical, beautiful, the streets are narrow and the food is GOOD. But it's sinking. You know, into the water. The high waters - acqui alti - are threatening the place's existence. SO! Why not go during Carnevale, and live it up while you can?! It is freezing and foggy, but the costumes and tradition and music and show are great!

Aix-en-Provence

by rickyvilla81

Provence is one of the more beautiful areas of Europe, if that is not enough of a cliche. But since I lived in Aix for a year I know I can give a pretty good account of the place (see my Aix page)! So the picture is of the Hotel de Ville.
