If you have never been to Europe before, I would take you to the northern parts of the netherlands, It is so beautiful there. I would rent some bikes and would take you to a tour on the lonely ways through the dunes in the late evening or the very morninghours.
Go at an older age. 12 - 15 years of age is not enough. Wait until your at least 18 or your children are. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. I do remember visiting my Grandfather's home in Finland (Vassa) where he was born and raised.
Spend as much time as you can in Ireland. Take your time and enjoy the people and the beautiful countryside. We are returning and spending most all of our time at the Dingle Penisula. It's beautiful! The people of Ireland.
Mom and Pop sandwhich and pastries shops on almost every block... People were always very kind and usually went out of there way to help...regardless of the request... Meeting the locals while taking trains and subways. What fun...No matter where we went, or what time of day it was, we never feared for our safety in great Britain and France.
Generally speak english or maybe french and if you learned latin in school you'll understand many words from westerneuropean languages. There are so many different languages in europe, you can't learn them all. But people in europe are very kind to tourists so you can communicate with your extremities *g*
When visiting Italy, the one thing that you should do is to soak up the atmosphere of the place. Go to their many museums, just sit and observe their daily business of life, and drink the wine and eat their sumptious cuisine! There are so many beautiful memories of Italy... every thing about the trip was good. I was stunned by David, he was so breathtakingly beautiful... I marvelled at the wonderful architecture of the various buildings and churches -- inspired by the love of men for God that led them to such artistic expressions of devotion... I drank all the delicious red wine I could, ate all the pasta and meats too, and snacked on gelato whenever I came across a gelato shop...Have fun!

You should go to Zurich and Lucerene. These two cities are absolutely wonderful!! We stayed in Zurich and had a tour in Lucerene. My fondest memory of Europe was when we went on a tour of Lucerene. We went up Mt. Pilatus and I felt like I was on top of the world.
There are, as far as I am concerned, certain cities you must see when coming to Eastern Europe. Oslo, Norway for the single guys. Florence, Venice, Rome, Lucerne, Zermatt, and Prague for the sightseer's. Last but not least is Madrid, Spain for the people who love a litte bit of both.
