Aschau im Chiemgau Things to Do

  • Nice houses!

When you walk around in Aschau, you'll see some nice painted and old houses. For example near the church you’ll find the former "Hotel Post" which is a noble hotel & restaurant now (I've looked at the prices – crazy!). Also at the main street there are several nice houses – just walk around and take a look!

  • "Grenzenlos" (boundless) hiking trail

There's a 120 km long hiking trail which connects Tyrol (Austria) and Bavaria (Germany) and passes Aschau and Sachrang. It's well signposted and we walked parts of it near the Schossrinn waterfall. It there goes along the river Priem and we had not problems with the prams. You can purchase a hiking guide (German or English) or a hiking map for this...

  • Schlossrinn waterfall

The Schlossrinn waterfall is nice little waterfall which is about 20 m high and is found near Schossrinn (not really a village, there are only a few houses). It's not far from the main street Aschau – Sachang and the "Grenzenlos" hiking trail, but unfortunately the last part of the trail is not suitable for prams or wheel-chairs. It's a small path...

  • Lake "Bärnsee"

The Bärnsee is a litte lake in a swamp area. There's a nice hiking trail around the lake, but as the lake and its direct surroundings are a nature protection area, you cannot get really close to it. As there's swamp, there had been some wooden catwalks, but unfortunately they were not always long enough. As it had rained the days before, the trail...

  • The pizzeria at the swamp

This pizzeria is a bit outside in direction Prien, next to the little camping ground. It was close to our holiday home so we went there once. There’s a beer garden and a little playground for children, that must be nice in the summer. And the pizza was good! The pizzeria is open daily.

  • Eating at the butcher

Angermann is a butcher and little self-service restaurant. You can get breakfast and lunch there, for good prices. Their menu is changing, we had the normal German fast-food stuff like Currywurst (sausage) with potato salad and Schnitzel with French fries, but they have some other things as well. You also can get some salad at the self-service...
