Rafael sleeping in our van by ATXtraveler During our 12 day excursion around Europe, we decided that our best bet was to take a car. Rather than figure out the train system, and to maximize our sightseeing, we felt the van would be the best bang for our buck. It was truly awesome, because we did not have to plan at all, picked up and took off. Even when we could not find a place to stay, we were able to spread out and all go to sleep in it, since we got the 15 passenger van for only two people! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Buses to Dachau's camp by d_d I reached Dachau by S-bahn from Munich (S2 line direction Peter-Hausen). Then at Dachau S-bahn station, you have to take a bus to the concentration camp (ticket on bus 1 Eur). The travel from Marienplatz in Munich to Dachau concentration camp takes about 40 minutes. It is very easy to get to the KZ-Gedenkstätte Dachau with public transport. The line S2 of the excellent suburban train network (S-Bahn) of München, direction Petershausen or Dachau, takes you from the München Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) to Dachau. There are trains every 20 minutes. From Dachau rail station there are two buses that drive you to the KZ every 20 minutes. One of them (726, I think) stops right at the entrance of the camp. However, you may have to wait because there are so many students that the bus gets full in a couple of seconds. The good thing is that, if you go to Dachau with the S-Bahn, the bus to the KZ is free! S-Bahn station by husain The best way to get there is to take the S-Bahn (S2) to Dachau station, and then follow the signs. Busses run regularly (724/ 726) between the station and the campsite. Its a 10 min walk from there on to the main entrance. Leave a Comment

For independent travel from Munich, the train to Dachau leaves from the main train station and takes well less than half an hour. Exit the train station and the bus stop is right in front. Take 724 which goes directly to the entrance (end of the line). Audio guides are located in white containers along the walkway on the left side. Guided tours leave from the train station as well. One large company has an office behind the track numbers in the lower thirties. Buy your ticket, meet your guiide. Most tours here will take the same train and bus as the independent traveller. The guide has only the advantage of giving discussion and answering questions along the way ( ours gave wrong answers on two questions ). Other than one set of toilets in the museum there are no facilities of any kind at Dachau. A McDonald's is on the second level of the train station and there are one or two small eateries along the bus route. The rough gravel surfaces and long distances for walking at Dachau require sturdy comfortable shoes. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Dachau is a 45 minute trip from downtwon Munich: Take S-2 (direction: Petershausen) to Dachau-Ost, to KZ-Gedenkstatte (the camp). The two-zone 9euros ticket covers the entire trip both ways; with a railpass, just pay for the bus 1 euro each way. Drivers follow Dachauerstrasse from downtown Munich to Dachau-Ost. Then follow the KZ-Gedenstatte signs. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Atention - steep downgrade slope to Munich by Leipzig It is no problem to get to Dachau by S-Bahn (suburban train) - they opperate between Munich and Dachau quite often. It is also possible to get there by car - Autobahns 8, 92 and 99 pass Dachau. Parking in town is no problem - huge parking lots for free are around the centre and several parking spaces are in the centre Leave a Comment Theme: Train

It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach Dachau from Munich on the S-Bahn route to Dachau/Petershausen. Once at Dachau station, the bus number 726 takes approx. 10 minutes to reach the camp entrance. The bus stop is 'KZ-Gedenkstaette'. Theme: Bus

City plan by TinKan We took the train from Munich to the town and then took a bus to the town and camp. The one day pass that we purchased for the metro and bus in Munich were good here as well. Remember to get the all zone Metro pass. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus
