by Ossi.P The 'Markgrafentheater', also build by Markgraf Friedrich in 1719, nowadays is location for both professional and amateur performances. In the middle of the first rank is the 'Markgrafen'-Box. Leave a Comment

by Ossi.P The 'Schloß' (castle) of Erlangen. It was built in 1704 by 'Markgraf Friedrich of Brandenburg'. As the main architect was a frenchman... it is build in French-classicism style. Nowadays the castle forms part of the university! In front of it is a statue of Friedrich-Alexander. Leave a Comment

by Ossi.P The 'Schloßgarten' (castle-gardens) right behind the castle with its fountains and the 'Orangerie'. On sunny days you'll find the lawn filled with people relaxing... As they serve as a city-park, there's no entrance-fee, of course, but it closes at 8 pm anyway. The Botanical gardens are located next to it (as you can see on the map!). Leave a Comment

by Ossi.P The castle-square in front of the castle. It is divided into the castle-square and the market-square, where local foods are sold everyday exept Sunday. Next to the square there's also the town's library. It is in the 'Palais Stuttenheim' that was build in 1728. Until 1971 it served as town-hall. The square has also a bad history... the place where the Nazis burnt the books of jewish authors, like everywhere in Germany, is marked on the ground (in front of the statue!). Leave a Comment

by Ossi.P When visting Erlangen you should observe that your visit is during the time of 'Bergkirchweih'! The 'Berg' is something like the 'oktoberfest' of Northern Bavaria, but I consider it better, because it has a more familiar atmosphere...you sit outside, above the beer-cellars which are inside the mountain, under the trees... The Berg usually takes place around Witsun! (In 2002 it'll take place from the 16th until the 27th of May!) For further information visit: www.der-berg-ruft.de
Again: The Bergkirchweih...every year!!! Leave a Comment

Wander up the 'mountain' just outside of town and enjoy the beer garden on evening.
Too many to count...

Erlangen, is one of the most boring cities I have ever seen. Just Siemens there, 30.000 fuc#ing boring Siemens people in a 100.000 people town.
20 years ago, we had a phase of german rock, when it was IN to have funny texts. One of these rock songs was about rlangen. It had the text of a guided city walk, like "look at these nice fountains on the right" and so on. The song was in the top 10 of the charts, and everybody laughed about Erlangen. Fuc# Erlangen. With luv ... I am very dissapointed to hear this review. There are closer to 40000 boring siemens Employees. The rest is made up of hot and wet, young, supple students. Erlangen has the best beer festival in Germany (and therefore the world). It has many, many good pubs and restaurants. I admit that this type of town does not appeal to everybody, but it is heaven for a cave man. Leave a Comment
