    Exchanges program with Eskilstuna.

by Dizzyhead Written Jan 14, 2010

Erlangen has very good connection with my city Eskilstuna and they let many students and active sports kids do exchange programs. I forgot aslo they change cultural exchange programs too. I know you can find more information about this in Eskilstuna city´s web page ww.eskilstuna.se.

    Bergkirchweih - Beer Festival

    by chris.hh Updated Mar 5, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Berg is a beer festival with a very long traditon. More the 1,3 million people visit it every year. I have not been there because I am pretty new in Erlangen since my friend moved here. But the Berg is the sixth season - after the four usual ones and carneval... The Berg is a festival where many breweries sell their beer on a hill (Berg) close to the city centre. In former times the beweries had their storages that they built into the mountain. There are many benches under oak trees, and the whole region gets crazy - as it is said. Many people perfer the Berg more then Oktoberfest because it is not that touristic. I will check it this year - maybe we meet? It is always one week starting at Whitsunday.
    Cheers - or: Prost!

Anna festival, called "The Berg" is a 12 day gala beer festval held in Erlangen during end of May/early June every year. This beer festival is the second largest in Germany after the famous October festival of Munich. The festival was started in 1755 AD and was dedicated to the mountain church on the outskirts of Erlangen.
A very high quality of beer called "Bergkirchweth" is specially brewed for this festival. The people of Erlangen and from nearby towns forget every thing and enjoy the festival drinking beer and dancing till late night. Over 1 million people from all over Germany attend the fesival every year. As the festival is not so famous like "Oktoberfest", very few foreigners come for this. Many men and women come here in their traditional dress. It is nice to see women in traditionaldress called "Dirndl".
The beer is served in 1 litre traditional mugs and sold at a price of Euro 7/-. If you return the mug, you get back Euro 5/-. But the mug is worth preserving as a momento. Here you can dance to the wonderful rythem of traditional music sipping beer.
