ANNA FESTIVAL (THE BERG)
Anna festival, called "The Berg" is a 12 day gala beer festval held in Erlangen during end of May/early June every year. This beer festival is the second largest in Germany after the famous October festival of Munich. The festival was started in 1755 AD and was dedicated to the mountain church on the outskirts of Erlangen.
A very high quality of beer called "Bergkirchweth" is specially brewed for this festival. The people of Erlangen and from nearby towns forget every thing and enjoy the festival drinking beer and dancing till late night. Over 1 million people from all over Germany attend the fesival every year. As the festival is not so famous like "Oktoberfest", very few foreigners come for this. Many men and women come here in their traditional dress. It is nice to see women in traditionaldress called "Dirndl".
The beer is served in 1 litre traditional mugs and sold at a price of Euro 7/-. If you return the mug, you get back Euro 5/-. But the mug is worth preserving as a momento. Here you can dance to the wonderful rythem of traditional music sipping beer.

Bergkirchweih - Beer Festival
The Berg is a beer festival with a very long traditon. More the 1,3 million people visit it every year. I have not been there because I am pretty new in Erlangen since my friend moved here. But the Berg is the sixth season - after the four usual ones and carneval... The Berg is a festival where many breweries sell their beer on a hill (Berg) close to the city centre. In former times the beweries had their storages that they built into the mountain. There are many benches under oak trees, and the whole region gets crazy - as it is said. Many people perfer the Berg more then Oktoberfest because it is not that touristic. I will check it this year - maybe we meet? It is always one week starting at Whitsunday.
Cheers - or: Prost!

FORCHHEIM BEER FESTIVAL
Every year, around 26th July the Kellerwald is the center of Franconian hospitality. The Annafest celebrated here since 1840 is one of the most interesting and charming folk festivals in Franconia. More than 20 beercellars (seven are open all year round) serving food and drinks. A Giant wheel and a children’s carousel are two of the many amusement rides. We also offer Bavarian music and also modern music bands. There are many stands selling anything from German sausages, barbecued food, platters and fried fish.
The first Annafest took place in 1840 in the Kellerwald which is a wonderful place to go at any time of the year. During the summer evenings it is the perfect location for a tasty platter ("Brotzeit") and a cool beer in the shady woods. In winter, a number of the beercellar´s offer delicious franconian home cooking. Around 30.000 people a day find enough space for dining. 450.000 - 500.000 visitors join the Annafest every year. Family Days with reduced prices are on Tuesday and Thursday from 1.00 to 8.00 pm.
A regular bus service is provided from the town and surrounding areas to the Annafest and retour
