The Rhön is increasingly presenting itself as the healthy, all natural area of the region. The Rhöner Bauernladen(farmers market) sells only locally made foods. They have a selection of breads, cheeses, and candies, along with a few other locally made souveniers. Of course, they also have a large selection of another local product from all natural ingredients; schnapps.
What to buy: Of all the things to try here, don't miss the Bauernbrot. It's baked fresh daily and is usually still warm when bought. The drive home is torture, the fresh baked bread smell filling up the car is just maddening!
What to pay: The store is mainly used by locals, so the prices are about average for bio food products. A 1000g loaf of Bauernbrot costs 2.25 euro.
