I did not have the opportunity to go into the museum. The museum is right off the main street through town. The building was originally built in 1628 for Michael Kaut, the builder of the fortress Marienburg in Wurzburg. The museum has been there since 1921.

The open-air(freilandmuseum) in Fladungen is a collection of buildings from the area. The buildings have been fully restored to their original look. Most of them are open, and the interiors are completely furnished, providing a good picture of life in the area. On weekends, the museum also has demonstrations of daily life, such as beer brewing, bread baking, and flour grinding.

The Rhoen Zuegle, or Rhoen Train, is run by the Freiland Museum in Fladungen. The train runs on most weekends between may and October, usually leaving Fladungen around 10:00. Tickets can be bought for a round-trip, or to one-way to Mellrichstadt. The train also has a special boxcar for bicycle transport..

A Freilicht museum is aplace, where historical buildings are reasambled after they had to to move for new roads. This historical houses give you a feeling how live was on a german viallage some hundred years ago. There are a lot of special events in this museum, where you can see how traditional artwork is done by local craftsman. In summertime a you can visit the museum by steam train.
