Weihenstephan Braustuberl: the reason for the visit

    The main Entrance

Located in a former monastery/abbey of Weihenstephan, the Wehenstephan Brewery is the world's longest-established brewery. Located on the premises is a huge restaurant and a Getranke (shop that sells their beer). The restaurant can handle big crowds and caters to tourists as well as the locals. I'm assuming there are a bunch of young folks who also imbibe in their beer since you have to drive through a local university to get to the site.
The food was good as was the service. They have English menus and some of the servers speak English. The place was crowded for a Friday afternoon but we were able to find seats. We just sat down at a long table that was partly empty. The beer (again, my main reason for being there) was very tasty. I had their wheat beer (see photo).

Favorite Dish: If you go to the world's longest-established brewery and don't try the beer, what's the point.

    Biergarten (Beer Garden) in Freising

The Biergarten (beer garden) in Freising, offers a variety of meals, from bratwurst with saurkraut to leberkaese with a pretzel. Enjoy music by the local band. The food is truly Bavarian and extremely delicious. This is real, typical German food! You gotta have some.

    Weihenstephan: Oldest brewery beergarden

by orix Written Oct 10, 2007

Located next to the oldest brewery in the world on a hill overviwing Fresing is this quite beer-garden. Well, it is more of a beer garden then a restaurant so you can get beergarten food there: Prezel, brat wurst, semel, sourkrout etc. But the main thing is the beer!

Hotel zur Gred: Hearty, generous sized meals

by Freising Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located near city center in the shadow of the "Domberg" (Cathedrals hill). Because of that steep hill it´s actually a little dim inside. They offer fine hearty Bavarian and International meals of good standard. Although not to cheap, the servings are quite big and worth their price.

As a local I enjoy meals there regularly. "Zur Gred" is also a hotel but for obvious reasons, I cant judge the accommodations.

Favorite Dish: Böhmertopf (not bavarian but bohemian)

City centre Balkan restaurant, large tasty vegatable plate for Mrs B and a Balkan style mixed grill for me, all with a couple of local Weihenstephan beers, lovely!

As we often stay in Freising for our flight out of the Munich Airport, we have come to really like a last German meal of the trip at the Weißbräu Huber.
